Mortgage Loan Originator
Forest Area Federal Credit Union is seeking a motivated and member-focused Mortgage Loan Originator to support our real estate lending program. This position is responsible for interviewing members, originating mortgage loan applications, guiding members through financing options, and ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant loan documentation from application through underwriting decision.
The ideal candidate enjoys building relationships, managing detailed loan files, and helping members navigate the home financing process while promoting the Credit Union’s products and services.
Primary Responsibilities-
Interview members in person to originate real estate loan applications and obtain required personal and financial information

Educate members on mortgage loan options, interest rates, repayment terms, insurance requirements, and related financing details

Prepare, analyze, process, and document all required mortgage loan forms and supporting documentation

Submit complete loan applications to underwriting for approval or counteroffer

Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and professionally to members

Gather, verify, and organize documentation for loan closings, including appraisals, surveys, and title work

Ensure loan fees, taxes, and insurance requirements are properly calculated and paid

Maintain escrow accounts for real estate taxes and insurance premiums

Enter and maintain accurate loan data within the Credit Union’s core processing system

Identify opportunities to cross-sell Credit Union products and services

Maintain strong professional relationships with members, realtors, title companies, and other external partners

Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, including BSA and AML requirements

Produce accurate, complete, and timely mortgage loan files and documentation

Meet established processing, underwriting, and closing deadlines

Actively cross-sell Credit Union products and services to meet or exceed goals

Provide prompt, knowledgeable, and professional service to members and internal staff

Maintain organized and complete loan files and required reports

Uphold the Credit Union’s professional image and reputation at all times

Previous experience in mortgage lending, loan origination, or real estate lending preferred

Strong understanding of mortgage documentation, escrow accounts, taxes, and insurance

Excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills

Ability to manage multiple files and deadlines simultaneously
