About the Role:
The People Experience Coordinator plays a central role in fostering an engaging, inclusive, and connected workplace culture. Reporting to the VP of People & Culture, and the Director of Communications, this role leads the execution of engagement and communication initiatives, and supports initiatives that enhance employee experience, learning and development, strengthen internal communication, and cultivate a strong organizational culture.
This position is responsible for designing and coordinating staff engagement initiatives, supporting leadership communication strategies, and amplifying staff and volunteer voice through storytelling and creative communication channels.
In this role, you will:
- Lead and deliver the organization’s staff engagement and culture initiatives, aligned with strategic priorities and YMCA values.
- Plan and execute the Employee Experience Calendar, including EDIB acknowledgements, recognition moments, town halls, trainings, and engagement events.
- Manage and govern SharePoint (Y Net) content, permissions, user experience, and performance metrics
- Design and facilitate interactive engagement experiences (e.g., Power Hours, Leadership Learnings, Town Halls), including content, formats, and logistics.
- Coordinate and deliver monthly internal communications, ensuring clear, consistent, and engaging internal messaging.
- Lead internal engagement and experience survey campaigns, including planning, communications, and participation tracking
- Create high-quality internal communications and visual assets (newsletters, presentations, templates, branded materials).
- Champion employee and volunteer storytelling, capturing diverse voices and meaningful “Y Stories” across channels.
- Support and enhance the employee experience and workplace culture, including surveys, recognition programs, and culture building initiatives.
- Lead planning and delivery for key events, including Staff Recognition Event.
- Serve as a creative partner to People & Culture and Marketing/Communications, contributing to engagement campaigns and leadership presentations.
Education and Skills Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Communications, Human Resources, Organizational Development, or a related field.
- 2–4 years of relevant experience in employee engagement, internal communications, Human Resources, or a related environment.
- Demonstrated experience planning, coordinating, and delivering staff engagement initiatives and events, both virtual and in person.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences — from senior leadership and the CEO to frontline staff.
- Proven storytelling, writing, and editing skills, with strong attention to tone, clarity, and audience impact.
- Experience designing polished, professional visual materials (e.g. presentations, event assets, internal communications) using tools such as Canva, PowerPoint, Adobe, or similar platforms.
- Highly organized and detail‑oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines.
- Strong project coordination and follow‑through, ensuring initiatives are executed accurately from planning through delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to work proactively and independently, anticipating needs, identifying gaps, and taking ownership of outcomes.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Experience in working with a non-profit or charity considered an asset.
