Location: John W. Lindsay YMCA

Position Status: Full-Time, Contract (July 2 to August 26, 2025)

Compensation: $18.00 per hour

About the Role:

The Recreation Coordinator is a key role within the YMCA, responsible for the support of the HFR team with planning, organizing, supporting, and implementing recreational activities and programs for individuals of all ages. The coordinator will have a major role in ensuring all recreational activity bookings are appropriately scheduled, instructors are following YMCA protocol, members are checked into reservations and programs are run safely and effectively. The position requires a passion for sports and recreation, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to the YMCA’s core values and mission.

In this role, you will:

  • Ensure the smooth operation of daily recreation programs, through equipment reservations, instructor onboarding, member registration, as well as setting up and breakdown of sports nets and equipment in the gymnasium. The Recreation Coordinator will work alongside the other John W. Lindsay team members to ensure gymnasium and program schedules are readily available and up to date for members and staff and programs are properly prepared (set-up) and cleaned up after.  
  • Ensure YMCA gymnasium, studio storage closets, and equipment are clean and maintained in keeping with safety requirements.  Follow Association, industry, and occupational health and safety requirements in regard to safe work practices, safety reporting, routine inspections, and monitoring of YMCA program and fitness facilities.
  • Develop marketing materials such as posters, flyers and social media posts in helping to promote recreational programs and workshops. Enhance member engagement through communication of program guide and YMCA recreational offerings. Respond to member concerns and inquiries in a timely and professional manner. 
  • Support the recruiting and on-boarding of Specialty Program Instructors and Program Volunteers. Ensure modeling and championing of YMCA behavioral standards regarding professionalism, discretion, and respectful workplace requirements. Ensure all YMCA Child Safety, Protection, and Certification standards are enforced for both staff and volunteers. Establishing member connections and relationships and ensuring participants are obeying YMCA etiquette on safe equipment use and attitude in the facility. 
  • Support the Adult Recreation Coordinator Coordinator in gathering and analyzing analytics for recreation bookings and member retention. 

Education and Skills Qualifications: 

  • University degree or College program, majoring in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Rec Management, or a related field.  
  • Passion for health, sports and recreation and helping others with demonstrated compassion. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Strong interpersonal skills including relationship building, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members 
  • Proven background in group fitness program delivery and member retention is considered an asset. 
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours required. 
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Canva.
