Reporting to the Vice-President Environment and Community Relations, this position will provide advice, guidance and expertise in the area of external affairs. He/she will establish and build mutually productive relationships with government, local communities, the media and other key industry stakeholders, in order to identify and manage social risks, and positively influence Gold Fields Windfall's reputation and image. External communications activities, representations and content preparation will be key elements of this position's responsibility. Based in the Montreal office, he/she will work a 5-day schedule followed by 2 days off.

DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES

  • Develop and deploy Windfall's communications plan, including developing content for the website, public consultation platform and social media;
  • Work closely with the community relations group to ensure consistency with local initiatives and social commitments;
  • Develop, manage and report on government relations, public policy, industry, media and external communications objectives;
  • Identify, monitor and manage crises and coordinate related communications activities;
  • Represent the company at industry events, industry association forums and public presentations;
  • Prepare presentations for strategic events, including the Windfall public hearings, and have their content approved through existing processes;
  • Plan logistics and organize team travel to industry events;
  • Coordinate and contribute to the development of the social investment plan, including strategic and innovative communications activities to promote Gold Fields' commitment to its host communities and community partners;
  • Participate in regular ad hoc activities, meetings and functions, including outside working hours;
  • Write press releases, manage media requests and make recommendations on media strategy;
  • Manage the complaints management system in collaboration with the community relations group;
  • Validate opportunities and write grant applications for corporate activities;
  • Occasionally work with global team members to support internal customers in growing the Gold Fields brand;
  • Report any situation that could affect the occupational health and safety of staff and the physical integrity of the facilities;
  • Comply at all times with health, safety and environmental policies and regulations;
  • Prepare and draft various weekly, monthly and annual reports for management and head office;
  • Perform any other related tasks requested by his/her immediate supervisor and relevant to the position of Lead specialist external communication and government affairs leading to the success of the project.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, political science, public relations or similar (or equivalent experience);
  • Minimum 10 years experience in the field, ideally in a mining or exploration company;
  • Bilingualism, will be required to work often in English;
  • Regular travel to support relationship and reputation management;
  • Valid class 5 driver's license.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Knowledge of stakeholder management systems and complaint management mechanisms;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and establish credibility with diverse stakeholders;
  • Skillfully and quickly write content for external distribution;
  • Excellent knowledge of Office Suite software.
