Who We Are:

Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The Park features historical buildings, costumed interpreters, working antiques, and various exhibits that provide insight into the region's past.

Job Overview:

Reporting to the Education Manager and Education Program Specialist, the Youth Program Facilitator - Overnight supports the preparation and delivery of youth programs that operate across varying shift times.

This role includes daytime, evening, and overnight shits. Overnight work may range from single-night programs to multi-night stays, depending on the program being offered. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring a safe, engaging, and positive overnight camp experience for all participants.  

Responsibilities:

Camper Supervision & Safety

  • Supervise youth program participants during daytime, evening, and overnight programming
  • When applicable, interact professionally with parents, guardians, and group leaders
  • During overnight programs, ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by conducting regular checks of sleeping areas, facilities, and grounds
  • Clearly communicate Park rules, expectations, and safety guidelines to participants and supervising adults

Program Delivery & Engagement

  • Deliver engaging, age-appropriate programming, including day, evening, and nighttime activities
  • Adapt activities as needed to support inclusive participation and positive camper experiences
  • Contribute to a welcoming, respectful camp culture through friendly, professional interactions with campers, families, staff, volunteers, and guests

Emergency Response & Communication

  • Respond calmly and effectively to unforeseen situations, including emergencies or medical incidents, following established Park protocols
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with the Education Program Specialist and Education Manager to support the successful delivery of programs
  • Complete post-program reports and provide feedback as required

Organizational Excellence and Wellbeing

  • Contribute to inspiring and immersive experiences at the Park through your roles and responsibilities by engaging in Heritage Park initiatives that align with the overall mission and vision of the Park
  • Demonstrate commitment to workplace health and safety by complying with Heritage Park's Health, Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS), following safe work practices, reporting work-related incidents, injuries and hazards, participating in employer training, and adhering policies including the Code of Conduct and the Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy
  • Actively support a positive work environment by creating an atmosphere of inclusion, engagement and fulfillment in line with Heritage Park values
  • Demonstrate responsible stewardship of our people, collections and financial assets by ensuring that they are handled with integrity, sustainability, and a focus on long-term benefits for the organization and its stakeholders

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a camp, education, or youth program setting is preferred
  • Experience supporting children with disabilities or special needs is considered an asset
  • Interest in and knowledge of the history of Western Canada is considered an asset
  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification required (training provided by the Park if not already certified)
  • Enthusiastic, dependable, and committed to working in a camp environment, including overnight shifts
  • Demonstrated leadership, responsibility, and strong organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a client-facing setting
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • All successful candidates must be over the age of 18 and will be required to go through a Police Information Check as a condition of employment. 

Special Clothing and Equipment:

  • Appropriate costuming and safety equipment will be provided by Heritage Park; 
  • Footwear, as designated by the Heritage Park Costume Department, will be provided by the employee.

 Special Working Conditions:

  • The position will be exposed to weather extremes and will work both indoors and outdoors;
  • This position is physically demanding, and the incumbent must be able to lift heavy items, stand for long periods, and walk throughout the Park for extended periods.

Hours of Work:

  • Hours will vary depending on operational need 
  • Shift times may include daytime, afternoon/evening and overnight
  • The schedule could include from one overnight through to five consecutive days per week, Monday to Friday and evenings and weekends may be expected, this is determined on Program requirements
