Reporting to the Senior Director, Environment and Permitting, the Construction Environment Coordinator will ensure the implementation of the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP), including the planning, organization, control, and monitoring of construction-related environmental activities. He or she will be required to work closely with staff from various associated companies, external consultants, and other members of the Company, depending on the projects and expected results. He or she will work a 5-day work week followed by 2 days off at our Montreal offices, with frequent travel to the site.

Duties and responsibilities 

•Act at all times as a leader in safety, the environment, and community relations in order to help achieve the highest standards;

•Comply at all times with occupational health and safety and environmental policies and regulations and ensure that staff comply with these rules;

•Plan and supervise the work of environmental supervisors and apply the supervision formula;

•Ensure that activities comply with the permits and authorizations obtained;

•Implement short-, medium-, and long-term plans, policies, and procedures related to environmental protection during construction;

•Provide regulatory, permitting, and compliance support throughout all stages of construction and work closely with the monitoring officer when clarification is needed;

•Recommend approaches to avoid and mitigate impacts when CEMP measures need to be modified to improve their effectiveness in the field;

•Communicate with authorities regarding reportable incidents;

•Raise awareness among the various stakeholders of the Windfall project about the principles of sound environmental management;

•Report any situation that could affect the health and safety of personnel and the physical integrity of facilities;

•Perform any other duties related to the position of construction environmental coordinator that are relevant to the success of the project, such as assisting in the implementation of an environmental management system or drafting procedures.


Required qualifications

•University degree in a field relevant to the position;

•Minimum of five (5) years of experience in mining, construction, and supervision;

•Experience working with First Nations (an asset).


Technical skills

•Functional oral and written French and English;

•Experience working with an environmental management system (an asset);

•Excellent knowledge of regulations governing key activities related to heavy industry (waste and hazardous waste, contaminated soil management, etc.) and the regulatory framework for mining development;

•Expertise in the areas of water, soil, air, and energy.
