The Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA) is an award-winning settlement agency that has contributed to Greater Victoria’s vibrant community for over fifty years. ICA’s services range from guiding immigrant entrepreneurs as they create small businesses to supporting vulnerable newcomers to become confident, contributing members of our community. In partnership with more than 500 community partners and generous donors and volunteers, ICA serves as a helping hand, a listening ear, and a tireless advocate for immigrants and refugees.
We are looking for Casual On-call LINC Instructors to deliver Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) instruction and orientation to facilitate the successful settlement and integration of newcomers (immigrants and refugees) to Canada and their local environment in Greater Victoria. Serves all individuals, including BIPOC, LGBTQ2+ and Indigenous, and those with diverse abilities. Works in close cooperation with the Language Services Manager and Head Language Instructor.
What you will bring to the role:
• Knowledge and practical application of the Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TESL) certificate, Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) and understanding of Performance Based Language Assessments (PBLA).
• Effective communication and teaching skills.
• Proficient with MS Office (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Zoom and database applications.
• Keen understanding of diversity issues to work with persons from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds on settlement/resettlement/refugee related issues.
• Three years’ work experience in LINC instruction in a settlement language-based LINC program, and work experience within social services, not-for-profit and/or multicultural environment.
• Experience working with immigrants and refugees and understanding of immigration and refugee issues.
• As a condition of hire, an updated criminal record check, including vulnerable populations check; and proof of WHMIS training, are required.
• A passion for helping others and a positive mindset.
Additional assets we value:
• Experience supervising LINC practicum students and/or classroom volunteers.
• Managing class attendance records and notifying Head Language Instructor of any problems in student attendance.
• Provide monthly reports on class activities to Language Services Manager.
• Creates awareness of anti-oppressive/social justice issues.
• Indigenous cultural competencies and/or lived experience with Indigenous communities are welcomed.

Compensation and hours: This position starts at $32.78 per hour, working hours as and when called for on-call casual shifts. The position requires union membership and is open to applicants of genders.
