Our latest venture is ROAR, our live-fire restaurant in Tofino, BC. We are searching for our next L&D Manager to join our flock of totally unique and fun-loving individuals to drive our business forward in the long term. 

This role reports to the VP of People and Culture and is a key player in the organization, working across departments to continually drive our culture of learning and growing by managing and executing our L&D programs. We love helping our teams grow across all our hotels and departments, and you will play a key role in this mission!

What the Role is Quacked Up to Be 

Reporting to our VP of People and Culture, you will be our driving force for learning and development across the company. You will work closely with P&C, our Operations team, and the Misfits (a team of frontline leaders) to create new training programs for our departments across all properties. You will work alongside People & Culture, Operations, and our external executive coach to build the L&D roadmap to address training and leadership programs for our frontline teams and Rebel Base (head office) teams. This is not an executive coaching role.  

In your first 3 months, you will… 

  • Work closely with Noah, our VP of People and Culture, to understand the current state of our L&D programs.  

  • Meet with department leaders to understand how their teams have historically used the L&D programs and to gather any feedback.  

  • Work with the Misfits (internal frontline leadership team) to understand their current needs and what the future holds 

  • Review administrative taskscatering needs and event planning checklists to better understand planning requirements for specific programs.  

  • Take over our Emerging Leaders program with Noah to create a plan for our next cohort.  

  • Run through our Leading with Love program with Ross Gilchrist to understand the methodology behind how we lead at Accent Inns/Hotel Zed/ROAR 

  • Run through all L&D programs and the current roadmap to identify our needs and priorities for the future 

  • Start travelling to our various properties to meet the teams and managers at each location.  


In your first 12 months, you will… 

  • Have run a successful Emerging Leaders cohort from start to finish.  

  • Have developed new training programs for our hotels (i.e. Front Desk Training) 

  • Have a successful partnership with the Operations team to develop new programs to help standardize processes and training across all our properties. 

  • Have frameworks and processes in place to manage all L&D programs efficiently and effectively 

  • Be the champion at Accent/Hotel Zed/ROAR for L&D and continuous improvement of our people and teams.  

  • Have developed a new L&D roadmap with input from key stakeholders that will drive the future of L&D 

  • Own and develop an L&D dashboard to track the impact and effectiveness of L&D programming 

  • Partnered with the Care Bears (our executive team) to develop new programs to address Change Management and New Manager training.  

  • Be the subject matter expert on all things L&D for our people.   

  • Have built relationships across all of our hotels and teams, from front desk and room attendants to General Managers and our Care Bears.  


This exciting role will help shape how our culture and learning environment evolve at Accent Inns/Hotel Zed/ROAR. This role partners closely with multiple departments across all business functions and properties. Communication, alignment and developing close relationships with key stakeholders will be key in ensuring the success of this role. You will spend 40-60% of your time travelling to our various locations throughout the year to facilitate workshops. You will have time to work with our executive coach Ross, who brings decades of experience to leadership development and coaching. This role requires someone who can facilitate workshops and develop them alongside subject matter experts.   

What to expect

First Interview (45min): You will meet with Laura, our HR Business Partner, to have an initial call to discuss your experience and answer your questions about Accent Inns/Hotel Zed/ROAR. 

Second Interview (60min): Meet Tori, our Operations Manager, and Noah, our VP of People and Culture, to discuss your technical expertise, what the role will look like long term, and answer more of your questions.  

Take-Home Project (2-3 hours)You will be asked to create a 30-minute training workshop on something you are passionate about and can train a panel of folks to do in a boardroom. You will receive more details and instructions after your second interview. You will be compensated for your time working on this project.  

Final Interview (60min): Execute the training workshop that you developed. You will have 30 minutes to teach 4 individuals something you are passionate about. This interview will be broken into two sections. 30 minutes for teaching and 30 minutes for questions.
