Tissue Culture Technician
Reporting
directly to the Tissue Culture Manager, the Tissue Culture Technicians are responsible
for strictly following SOPs to perform typical micropropagation tasks,
assisting with plant media production, employing sterile technique, maintaining
a clean workspace, and capturing data for production-related activities.
This is a hardworking, hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves environment emphasizing a team-oriented and collaborative style. It will be key for the candidate to embrace change and see past obstacles with a focus on solutions in the context of a company undergoing rapid growth and ongoing functional integration.
Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Cutting of cannabis plants based on production schedules created by Management
- Monitoring plants for growth, contamination and lighting
- Preparation of daily solutions and various volumes of media as needed
- Daily use of multiple pieces of equipment (small and large)
- Detailed record keeping for each batch
- Daily cleaning of workspace, work tools and functional work surfaces
- Bi-weekly general cleaning of department premises
- Additional monthly and biannual cleaning of department premises
- Additional cleaning and maintenance of department equipment
- Dispensing of applicable medium to a variety of vessels
- Careful and accurate tagging of each vessel
- Communication to Supervisor(s) on inventory of department consumables
- Ensuring accurate and detailed records are maintained for all daily department tasks
- Other duties as assigned
Job Details:
Rate of Pay: $19.00 per hour
Position Status: Full-Time, Hourly, Permanent Position
Schedule: Regularly 7:00am-3:30pm Monday-Friday (occasional additional shiftwork, subject to change as per operational requirements)
Psychological Demands:
- Must be able to complete duties with minimal supervision and comfortable working independently and safely
- Must be comfortable with completing highly repetitive tasks with focused attention
- Fast-paced, production-focused role
Physical Demands:
- Ability to perform physical tasks required for an 8-hour shift period, including but not limited to: pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50lbs), standing, walking, sitting for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment including, but not limited to medical gloves, safety eyewear, face masks, half-mask respirator, etc.
- This position will involve exposure to fresh cannabis/plant materials and is therefore not likely suitable for anyone that may suffer from allergies to cannabis or plant pollen, or for anyone that experiences medical issues as a result of exposure to cannabis/plant materials
Environmental Demands:
- Clean laboratory environment
- Must be willing to work in environments with variable temperature, humidity, and variable lighting.
- Must be able to work in an environment that uses chemicals and cleaning products including, but not limited to, Simple Green, AM 717, Caustek Free, Powerquat, and Isopropyl Alcohol.
- Strong scent of fresh cannabis plants
The ideal candidate has:
- Post secondary education or equivalent experience in Sciences (biology, chemistry, biochemistry, pharma, food science, plant science)
- Lab experience is a strong asset
- Meticulous attention to detail in repetitive tasks
- The ability to work in a results-oriented, time-sensitive environment
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, to work effectively with all levels of employees and management
- Must have basic computer skills for tracking documentation
- Access to reliable transportation to work full-time hours as scheduled (40 hours per week)
- Must have the ability to provide a criminal record check that is clear of any charges that could be related or have a direct correlation to the position or company
- All employees must be 19+
