Yard Manager

Job Duties
Hands-On Yard & Warehouse Responsibilities
This is a working manager position. While you will provide leadership and oversight, you will also be actively completing yard tasks yourself.
- Lead by example while performing day-to-day yard duties including receiving, organizing product, yard setup, customer service and forklift operation.
- Work closely with your team in all weather conditions to ensure smooth yard operations.
- Maintain strong housekeeping standards to protect products, support health & safety, and ensure a clean, customer-ready yard.
- Operate forklifts and other equipment safely and efficiently.
- Support inventory control processes and ensure accurate product handling.
Team Leadership & Staff Management
- Assign daily tasks and work alongside yard employees to keep operations running smoothly.
- Train and mentor staff, ensuring all team members follow safe work practices and represent the company professionally.
- Coordinate with the Central Dispatcher to organize and prioritize load building and delivery schedules.
- Ensure all employees maintain valid certifications and follow all safety procedures and company policies.
Administration
- Collaborate with the Branch Manager on staffing, budgeting, and scheduling.
- Handle employee relations including coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance and ensure safe operation.
- Promote and enforce Health & Safety compliance at all times.
Job Requirements
- Comfortable performing physical yard work and heavy lifting on a daily basis.
- Willing and able to work outdoors in all climates.
- Forklift experience required.
- Strong organizational, time management, and prioritizing skills.
- Customer-focused with a professional, positive attitude.
- Reliable and committed to teamwork.
- Lumber knowledge and Building supply knowledge
