Reporting to the Finance Director, the cost controller - finances will be responsible for managing and monitoring project and operational costs. This role will support managers in monitoring and complying with the budget. The Finance/Cost Controller will play a key role in ensuring compliance with IFRS accounting standards and SOX requirements, analyzing budget variances, and proposing corrective actions. They will prepare detailed financial reports, collaborate with project teams, management teams and financial departments, and identify financial risks to optimize the company's profitability. They will work a schedule of 5 working days followed by 2 days off, teleworking, with travel to our Montreal offices and the Windfall site.
DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES
- Act at all times as a leader in safety, environment and community relations in order to help achieve the highest standards;
- Respect at all times the policies and regulations regarding occupational health and safety and the environment and ensure that these rules are respected by the staff;
- Work closely with the FP&A analyst to prepare budget worksheets and financial reports. Coordinate the project budget process, which includes directing budgeting assumptions to the various business units (mining, exploration, project, logistics, etc.).
- Establish initial project and operational budgets and monitor their progress.
- Prepare strategic plan worksheets that are linked to the company's objectives and reflect the budget;
- With the help of the FP&A analyst, identify and analyze variances between planned and actual costs, and propose corrective actions;
- Prepare and present detailed reports and KPIs on the status of project and operational costs to management to support strategic decision-making;
- Monitor assets/fixed assets under construction (AUC - Asset Under Construction) to ensure sound asset capitalization and depreciation;
- Plan cash flow requirements to ensure the continuity of project and operational activities;
- Monitor inventory inflows and outflows and verify their compliance with accounting records;
- Evaluate the profitability of operations by analyzing associated costs and revenues;
- Propose strategies to reduce costs and improve profitability;
- Calculate production costs taking into account raw materials, labor and overheads;
- Identify and map cost centers for better traceability of expenses;
- Develop and maintain the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for effective project management;
- Work closely with project teams to ensure that the WBS and cost centers meet business objectives for cost reporting.
- Ensure that all accounting practices comply with IFRS standards.
- Collaborate with internal controllers to ensure compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX).
- Establish and oversee internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial data.
- Ensure sufficient insurance coverage according to current and future needs;
- Work closely with project teams, operations management, finance, procurement, IT, and internal controllers;
- Perform any other tasks related to the position of cost controller - finance that are relevant to the success of the project.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a similar position;
- University degree in accounting, finance or a related field;
- Member of the Order of CPAs (an asset);
- Experience in the mining or manufacturing sector (an asset)
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Bilingualism (French and English), will have to work with English-speaking consultants and suppliers;
- Familiarity with technical design processes and construction interfaces;
- Understanding of mining activity and cost factors (e.g. development, drilling, labor, etc.);
- Ability to read and understand technical and contractual documents;
- Excellent command of Microsoft Excel software, advanced level;
- Proficiency in MS Office;
- Skills and knowledge of planning software an asset.
- Ability to create data visualization dashboards (e.g. Power BI - an asset)
- SAP S/4HANA or ERP experience (an asset);
- Experience in a SOX environment (an asset);
- Experience in an IFRS environment (an asset).

- Strong oral and written communication skills (French and English);

- Ability to understand project planning, scope, timelines, work distribution structures, cost distribution structures, etc. at complex/multidisciplinary levels;
