Job Summary

As an HR Generalist, you will play a key role in supporting employees and operations across multiple waste and recycling sites in Ontario. This hands-on position requires a proactive and adaptable professional who is comfortable working in both office and field environments, partnering with managers and frontline teams on a broad range of human resources initiatives including employee relations, recruitment, performance management, health and safety, workforce engagement, and the adoption of AI-enabled HR tools and processes to improve efficiency and employee experience.

Position Description

  • Act as a trusted HR business partner and primary resource for employees and managers across multiple waste and recycling operations throughout Ontario, fostering a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative workplace culture. 
  • Collaborate with site leadership to support workforce planning, onboarding, employee and labour relations, and retention strategies that promote equity, accessibility, and belonging for both field and corporate teams. 
  • Conduct regular site visits to operational facilities to build strong relationships with frontline employees, provide hands-on HR support, and ensure the fair and consistent application of HR policies, procedures, and company values. 
  • Provide guidance on employment legislation, workplace compliance, accommodation practices, attendance management, and Ontario labour laws, including Collective Bargaining Agreements where applicable. 
  • Support performance management, employee engagement, succession planning, and workforce development initiatives that encourage continuous growth, psychological safety, and inclusive leadership practices. 
  • Assist in the development and delivery of training programs, new hire orientation, leadership development, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and health & safety programs across operational sites. 
  • Support the implementation and ongoing use of AI-enabled HR systems, reporting tools, and process improvements while promoting ethical, equitable, and people-focused HR practices. 
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, HR documentation, and reporting in compliance with company policies, privacy standards, and legislative requirements. 
  • Conduct workplace investigations, employee consultations, and conflict resolution processes in a professional, unbiased, and solutions-focused manner. 
  • Participate in HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational excellence, employee engagement, accessibility, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. 
  • Research HR trends, analyze workforce data, prepare reports, and provide recommendations that support strategic decision-making and inclusive people practices. 
  • Prepare and manage HR-related documentation including accommodation letters, performance management materials, attendance management documentation, policy updates, and employee communications. 
  • Facilitate clear communication and meaningful collaboration with employees, managers, union representatives, and stakeholders to support an inclusive, respectful, and productive work environment. 
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned. 
  • Travel Required: Regular travel to operational sites across Ontario is required. 

Skills & Qualifications 

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in Human Resources is required.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in Human Resources is required.
  • Experience in a unionized environment is required.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual (English/French) is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Ontario employment legislation and HR best practices.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (advanced knowledge of Outlook, Word; intermediate Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency in AI related concepts is considered an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to travel within local Ontario facilities (approximately 30%).
  • Experience working in a waste management, transportation or manufacturing environment considered an asset.

Salary - $65,000
