Child and Youth Worker
Our Children & Youth with Support Needs (CYSN) Program focuses on enhancing life skills, social skills and emotional regulation by facilitating activities that foster these abilities in a natural and fun way. The CYSN Worker will work with individuals and groups to build and enhance these skills.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Develop and implements short-term, issue-specific intervention plans within program guidelines in consultation with the supervisor.
• Plan, prepare and facilitate group and/or individual sessions using techniques such as active listening, conflict resolution, basic group counselling methods to help resolve identified problems, needs and risks.
• Provide skill building in areas such as life skills, anger management or self-management techniques.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of client plans, reports on clients’ progress, and discusses related concerns with supervisor in order to resolve identified issues and move towards defined objectives.
• Outline services provided by the program and/or organization. Provides information on and referral to other community service providers, resources and professionals as required.
• Maintain related records and statistics and provides reports to the supervisor as required.
• Liaise with and/or promotes the interests of clients with other community service providers, professionals and school personnel as required. Accompanies clients to meetings and appointments as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience
• Two-year diploma in a related human/social service field.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with youth experiencing developmental disabilities, mental health, substance use, and/or concurrent disorder challenges in a multidisciplinary setting.
• Experience in Trauma-Informed Practice, Harm Reduction, and Recovery-Oriented Care.
Additional Requirements
• Clear Criminal Record Check is required.
• Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
• Valid and unrestricted Class 5 BC Driver’s License with access to a safe and reliable vehicle.
• Clear Driver’s Abstract (provided annually).
• Position requires Union Membership.
Shift/Schedule/Hours per week: 28 hours per week
Expected Start Date: ASAP
Wage/Salary: starting at $27.54/hour
Grid Level: 11
