Mental Health and Substance Use Clinician – Foundry Kelowna
WHO IS A MHSU CLINICIAN?
The Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) Clinician will provide clinical counseling, assessment, care planning, and support to young people accessing services at Foundry Kelowna. The Clinician will employ a solution-focused brief therapy approach to empower youth in their mental health and substance use journeys, facilitating their access to necessary services and promoting their overall well-being.
WHAT DOES A MHSU CLINICIAN DO?
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide individual treatment and ongoing assessment using evidence-based modalities, including CBT, mindfulness, and DBT
- Utilize a single-session approach to deliver Solution Focused Brief Therapy to youth
- Facilitate group therapy workshops and deliver psychosocial care
- Carry a manageable caseload, providing brief and short-term interventions
- Conduct comprehensive assessments as required to identify individual needs and participate in care planning
- Facilitate access to appropriate services based on assessment outcomes
- Provide direct services to youth and young adults, including families/caregivers and other professionals involved in the care process
- Assist clients with system navigation, advocacy, and referrals to specialized resources
- Collaborate with clients, internal teams, healthcare professionals, families, and community partners to ensure integrated care
- Mentor and support other team members and practicum students in clinical practices and interventions
- Participate in service improvement initiatives, including collaborating with community agencies and stakeholders to enhance the support network for young individuals
- Performs other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology, or equivalent in Behavioral/Social Sciences/Services required
- Certification or working towards obtaining certification in applicable field (ie: BCCSW, BCACC)
- Class V BC Driver’s License is required;
- Criminal Record Check in the Vulnerable Sector is required;
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a counselling role
- Experience working with youth, young adults or families/caregivers considered an asset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to establish rapport and trust with youth and families
- Skilled in active listening and empathetic engagement
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to ethical guidelines
- Ability to maintain consistent professional boundaries
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
- Proficient in utilizing clinical assessment tools and electronic health record systems
- Familiarity with evidence-based practices in mental health and substance use treatment
- Knowledge of harm reduction and working with a trauma informed lens
- Experience in facilitating group programs is preferred
- Attention to detail and adaptability to changing environments
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and negotiation skills for assessing complex situations, particularly with young people
- Ability to synthesize information quickly and make informed decisions
- Ability to be regularly exposed to individuals who are struggling with and/or recovering from trauma, drug/alcohol use, homelessness, mental health challenges and/or mental illness
