Volunteers play an important role in the YMCA. Every year hundreds of people give freely of their time and expertise to ensure the delivery of quality programs and services at the YMCA of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Definition of a Volunteer

A YMA volunteer is defined as anyone who willingly gives time to help the YMCA accomplish it's mission without receiving compensation or special treatment from the YMCA.

Volunteer Categories

Volunteers are categorized into these categories: Standard First Aid and CPR

  • Program (Employment, Enterprise and Newcomer Services; Health Fitness & Aquatics; Child Care and Day Camp)
  • Philanthropy (Campaign, Fundraising, Special Events)
  • Governance and Policy
  • Advisory Committee

Locations Accepting Volunteer Applications

  • Avalon Metro Peninsula (St. John's and surrounding communities)
  • Avalon Rural Peninsula (Placentia)
  • Marystown
  • Happy Valley-Goose Bay
  • Bonavista

Screening Policy

Volunteers assist the YMCA in serving a diverse population. All volunteers are screened in order to ensure that our participants receive the best possible service interaction. Note: Some volunteer positions require certifications. I understand that I will be subject to reference and criminal screening checks and I will be expected to adhere to all rules and regulations that govern the YMCA.
