Who We Are:
Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The Park features historical buildings, costumed interpreters, working antiques, and various exhibits that provide insight into the region's past.
Job Overview:
Under the supervision of the Warehouse Operations Manager to maintain a clean, safe, and organized warehouse environment while supporting the overall logistics operations. The Warehouse Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation of the warehouse by assisting with various tasks related to inventory management, order fulfilment, and warehouse organization.
Responsibilities:
Warehouse Operational Support
- Assist with the receiving, unpacking, and sorting of incoming shipments, verifying quantities and inspecting goods for damage or defects
- Receive incoming perishable items and store them following FIFO (first in, first out) principles to maintain freshness
- Assist in preparing received goods, including perishables, for storage or distribution to various facilities within the park
- Collaborate with other warehouse staff and departments to fulfill orders accurately and efficiently
- Deliver goods to designated locations throughout the park using park vehicles, prioritizing the safety of guests, team members, and livestock
- Utilize the inventory management system, following training provided, to fulfill requisitions, process transfer orders, and perform other required data entry tasks
- Perform inventory counts and assist with cycle counting to maintain accurate stock levels and prevent discrepancies
- Support the setup and takedown of special events and programs as directed, ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are available and properly stored.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment within the warehouse, adhering to health and safety standards at all times
- Keep the warehouse clean and tidy by sweeping floors, removing debris, and disposing of packaging materials properly
- Assist internal and external customers throughout the park, responding to ad hoc requests promptly and professionally to ensure exceptional customer experience.
- Assist in retail product processing as needed, including receiving, stocking, and organizing merchandise
- Perform other duties as required
- Contribute to inspiring and immersive experiences at the Park through your roles and responsibilities by engaging in Heritage Park initiatives that align with the overall mission and vision of the Park
- Demonstrate commitment to workplace health and safety by complying with Heritage Park's Health, Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS), following safe work practices, reporting work-related incidents, injuries and hazards, participating in employer training, and adhering policies including the Code of Conduct and the Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy
- Actively support a positive work environment through creating an atmosphere of inclusion, engagement and fulfillment in line with Heritage Park values
- Demonstrate responsible stewardship of our people, collections and financial assets by ensuring that they are handled with integrity, sustainability, and a focus on long-term benefits for the organization and its stakeholders
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 6 months' prior experience in a related role in a retail or warehouse environment is required
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks such as counting, labelling, and recording inventory
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills in a client-faced setting
- All successful candidates (over the age of 18) will be required to go through a Police Information Check as a condition of employment.
Special Clothing and Equipment:
- Appropriate costuming and safety equipment will be provided by Heritage Park, which must be worn while on shift, and
- Footwear, as designated by the Heritage Park Costume Department, will be provided by the employee.
Special Working Conditions:
- The position will be exposed to weather extremes and will work both indoors and outdoors
- This position is physically demanding, and the incumbent must have the ability to stand for long periods of time and walk throughout the Park for extended periods
Hours of Work:
- The schedule for this position varies based on operations
- The schedule will generally include weekdays, weekends, holidays and some evenings as Heritage Park is open 7 days a week during the operating season
