Autistic Peer Facilitator - Autistic Community Group Co-Faciliatator

This is a remote role Temporary $30.00/hour

Wage: $30/hour + 10% in lieu of benefits ($33/hr)
Hours: Part time, fixed term: January to August 2026
Locations: Virtual/Remote

About the Autistic Community Group: 

  • The purpose of the Autistic Community Group (ACG) is to provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where individuals (18+) discuss topics about the autistic experience among peers and supported by the leadership of Autistic Peer Facilitators. Each month, the group explores a new topic, developed by the Autistic peer facilitators and inspired by participant suggestions.

  • The ACG meets virtually once a month, first Tuesday of each month from 6:00-7:30PM

Position Description

CAN is seeking to contract an Autistic-identifying part-time facilitator to co-lead the CAN Autistic Community Group (ACG). As a facilitator, your role is to create a welcoming and inclusive group environment and help facilitate meaningful group discussions and connections. You will be co-facilitating this group with 1-2 other Peer Facilitators.

Key Functions

  • Attend initial facilitator training (note: may be other training opportunities throughout the year).
  • Co-facilitating the CAN Autistic Community Group once a month. This includes co-leading the group in structured and unstructured discussion time, moderating chat, and providing support as needed to participants throughout the meeting.
  • Ensuring all participants have equal opportunity to participate and engage in the meeting (this may include timekeeping and supporting the group to stay on topic of the discussion).
  • Recording attendance, taking meeting notes and completing CAN communication logs after meeting sessions.
  • Willing to share lived experiences as an Autistic individual
  • Completing meeting preparation and post-meeting debriefing (example: reviewing meeting notes and participant follow up) as needed.
  • Participating in additional team meetings as needed with co-facilitators and CAN Mental Health and Wellness team.

Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • In depth understanding of the various challenges Autistic youth face in the community, including lived experience as an Autistic individual (formal diagnosis not required). 
  • Passion for building meaningful connections and guiding conversations. 
  • Confident and comfortable with leading groups and managing positive communication between group members. Ability to foster discussions and connections.
  • Knowledge of existing community and other resources for Autistic adults. 
  • Strong team player: willing to collaborate and be flexible.

Assets (helpful skills and knowledge to have)

  • Previous participation in other CAN Youth and Adult Programming.
  • Prior experience facilitating groups or training is preferred, particularly with autistic youth and adults. 
  • Confident and comfortable with written communication (i.e., writing emails, providing feedback etc.)
