Job Summary
The Design Technician is responsible for creating detailed technical drawings, models, and documentation to support the steel manufacturing and fabrication processes. This role works closely with engineers, production teams, and project managers to ensure designs meet specifications, quality standards and customer requirements. This position will appeal to individuals with strong technical skills who have exceptional attention to detail while working in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment.

Job Duties
- Preparation of engineering designs and drawings
- Interpret engineering specifications, blueprints, and client requirements to produce accurate design documentation
- Generate shop drawings, fabrications drawings and bill of materials (BOMs)
- Review and revise drawings based on internal feedback, field changes, or client modifications
- Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations and company policies
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize manufacturability and efficiency
- Support project planning by providing technical data and timelines for design completion
- Managing part numbers, bills of materials, parts manuals, and revisions thereto
- Estimating costs and materials
- Checking drawings for conformity and errors
- Updating drawing standards and procedures
- Providing drawings for manuals and promotional materials
- Contributing to design and product development
- Assist in troubleshooting design-related issues during fabrication or installation
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design accuracy and workflow efficiency.
Job Requirements
- Engineering Technician or Technologist in Mechanical, Civil, Architecture, or related discipline
- High level of proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate well with sales, engineering, and operations personnel
- Self-motivated; able to work both independently and as part of a group
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Ability to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, processes, and systems
- Experience in manufacturing, particularly welding and forming steel, is considered an asset
- High level of integrity and work ethic
Work Conditions
- Attendance and conducting of presentations
- Extended periods of sitting
- Occasional overtime
- Operation of desktop computer and peripherals
- Working in a busy office environment with frequent interruptions
