Summary of Duties:


The Policy Analyst will support by analyzing existing socio-demographic data and reviewing policies administered by Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) through a GBA+ (Gender-Based Analysis Plus) lens. The role is responsible for identifying the implications of federal policy on Lil’wat Membership and providing informed, actionable recommendations to enhance community wellbeing and sovereignty.

This position also plays a key role in supporting strategic planning and policy advocacy efforts that align with the Nation’s long-term goals and governance priorities.


Key Deliverables and Expectations:


Review and assess ISC-administered policies to identify key priorities and impacts for the Nation.

Develop and implement processes for effective data collection, management, and reporting.

Provide clear and detailed policy advice to senior staff, executive leadership, and Board members.

Lead and coordinate research and analysis projects on a range of First Nations-related topics, including but not limited to education, health, economic development, and governance.

Prepare comprehensive reports, briefing notes, business cases, presentations, and correspondence, in collaboration with relevant internal and external stakeholders.

Identify, evaluate, and recommend advocacy positions, policy options, and program strategies aligned with Nation priorities.

Monitor and analyze policy developments across jurisdictions, sectors, and ministries, ensuring alignment with Lil’wat’s strategic goals.

Interpret and synthesize both quantitative and qualitative data to inform decision-making.

Develop and submit data queries in response to internal requests for information.

Contribute to the development and implementation of information-sharing protocols with partner agencies.

Maintain positive working relationships with key partners, community members, and internal departments to support strategic collaboration.

Perform other related duties as required.


Experience and Attributes: 


A university degree in a relevant field (e.g., Public Policy, Education, Indigenous Studies, Political Science, or a related discipline), or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Demonstrated experience in research, policy analysis, and development is strongly preferred.

GBA+ training and experience applying GBA+ in policy development is considered a strong asset.

Strong knowledge of public policy frameworks, First Nations governance structures, and the historical, political, and legal context affecting Indigenous communities.

Understanding of how policies impact Indigenous sovereignty and the socio-economic wellbeing of First Nations peoples.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex policy language into accessible content for diverse audiences.

Excellent organizational, analytical, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Able to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Flexible, proactive, and passionate about advocating for First Nations rights, titles, and interests.

Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel as required.

Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License, clean driver’s abstract, and access to a reliable vehicle.

Clear criminal record check, including the vulnerable sector.
