The Opportunity:
DIVERSEcity is seeking a full-time Marketing & Communications Specialist to join our team to support the non-profit organization as a whole, as well as its diverse programs, services and events. This position will support the marketing and communications team and will be responsible for producing and promoting print and digital communications collateral with the goal of engaging existing and potential clients, and stakeholders, and raising the organization’s profile and thought leadership in the community. Storytelling and social media marketing are integral to the role, as well as other tasks and duties required to support content campaigns, thought leadership and events.
The key areas of responsibility are:
- Research, write and edit magazine-style stories about people and issues for various purposes including press releases, articles, e-newsletters, flyers, brochures, outreach packages, publications, and more;
- Write and design flyers and brochures to agency brand standards;
- Create multimedia posts for social media and website;
- Support internal communications through helping develop internal news bulletin, staff events and workshops, staff manuals
- Help with updating website, calendars and Google Adwords, and tracking digital analytics;
- Analyze and report on effectiveness of marketing and public relations programs;
- Develop and post social media content and help develop social media calendars;
- Liaise with program teams to develop marketing content and plans;
- Liaise with media and third-party stakeholders to promote organization events, announcements and programs;
- Develop new marketing and PR opportunities to advance the organization's strategic priorities;
- Help plan and promote events, and support various program teams' attendance at community events and festivals with preparation of tabling material.
- Attend some events as needed, with some flexibility for evening and weekend events;
- Manage and upkeep the photo archive, contact lists, and ad and press clippings;
- Adhere to Society and department Policies and Procedures;
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manager.
Qualified candidates will possess:
- Diploma in marketing, communications or equivalent, plus minimum 2 years of professional employment experience, preferably with a combination of corporate and not-for-profit exposure;
- Published examples of issues-based articles and people profiles from a journalism or corporate/non-profit setting;
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills;
- Excellent creative writing skills, editing skills and an understanding of how to develop compelling content;
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment, and juggle multiple projects at a time;
- Ability to follow corporate style guides and ensure brand consistency with a keen attention for detail and proofreading;
- Experience with social media, multimedia/video content, Google Adwords;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, WordPress and Adobe Suite software; graphic design training preferred;
- Basic photography and videography skills;
- Knowledge of diversity and social justice issues, with a focus on Surrey, Delta, Langley and White Rock, is an asset;
- All other duties as assigned.
