Summary of Duties:


The Administrative Assistant - Language and Culture will be focusing on providing administrative support for all language and culture programs hosted by the Lil’wat7ul Culture Center. In this position, you will need to use a wide range of administrative support tools and skills to establish and maintain working relationships across the organization as well as community communication and engagement. 


Key Deliverables and Expectations:


  • Assist the team and Language and Culture Manager with all administrative deliverables.
  • Produce reports that demonstrate project summaries and updates.
  • Establish systems to identify and track project activity, timelines, milestones, and monies.
  • Support all team members in successful planning, organizing, implementing and advertising of programming and events involved in traditions, culture, customs, and language.
  • Input invoices in Erequester.
  • Assist with financial planning and management for the department, including proposals, budgets, new funding sources, and financial reporting.
  • Coordinate Lil’wat Language, Culture and Heritage Authority Meetings; including creating agendas and taking meeting minutes.
  • Maintain manual and digital filing systems.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Experience and Attributes: 


  • Minimum grade 12 with an additional targeted education, training, and experience.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate to a diverse audience. 
  • Ability to remain impervious in contentious discussions around sensitive subject matter (ex. First Nations history, rights, intergenerational trauma, self-governance, de-colonization, etc). 
  • Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines prioritizes assignments, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic and ability to work collaboratively with external stake holders, community citizens and staff.
  • Strong financial literacy and financial tracking abilities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the traditions, culture, customs, and language, specific to Lil’wat nation.
  • First Nation’s experience and understanding of Ucwalmicwts an asset.
  • Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check, including the vulnerable sector.
