Position Overview
Kids Cancer Care is looking for a temporary full-time Outreach Program Coordinator (Maternity Leave Coverage). This position reports to the Director of Outreach. The Outreach Program Coordinator will be directly responsible for the development and implementation of the year-round Teem Leadership Program (TLP), providing opportunities for growth, empowerment, and mentorship.
Key Areas of Responsibility
In accordance with the approved Kids Cancer Care policies, the Outreach Program Coordinator will be responsible for the following areas.
- Follow
and execute the Teen Leadership Program year-round curriculum which includes:
- Information night for teens and parents.
- Application process – recruitment and selection.
- Organize and facilitate the Teen Leadership portion of the Education Conference.
- Plan and organize monthly leadership meetings.
- Assist and oversee all group fundraising opportunities.
- Coordinate all travel plans and project plans for the Teen Leadership Service Trip (every second year) and be the lead on the trip.
- Work evenings and weekends as required.
- Effectively manage program budgets.
Additionally, the Outreach Program Coordinator will develop and implement Camp Sunrise, a community day-program for children aged 3 to 7 affected by childhood cancer. Responsibilities include:
- Lead the strategic planning, recruitment of participants and volunteers, and operational delivery of the Camp Sunrise program, while ensuring summer student contributions are effectively integrated and supervised to support program goals.
- Coordinate age-appropriate activities, staffing, and logistics to ensure a safe, fun, and supportive environment for participants and families.
- Provide guidance and support to volunteers involved in Camp Sunrise to ensure successful program delivery.
- Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, collecting feedback to refine future programming.
The Outreach Program Coordinator will also plan and implement the following targeted programs:
- Teen
Nights (twice annually):
- Provide an emotionally low-risk environment for teens to connect and engage in informal conversations.
- Offer novel experiences such as Game Night or Hockey Night to encourage registration and create meaningful experiences to look forward to.
- Alumni
Event in partnership with WellSpring Alberta (once annually):
- Facilitate smooth transitions to supports for adults.
- Connect alumni with young adults who have shared cancer experiences.
- Encourage continued relationships with youth through WellSpring while promoting volunteer or donor engagement.
- Kid
Cooking Classes (three annually) in collaboration with Child Life Specialist:
- Teen Cooking (13–17): Focus on independent cooking, meal preparation, kitchen safety, understanding complex recipes, and planning balanced meals.
- Pre-Teen Cooking (8–12): Focus on simple cooking techniques, exploring cuisines, basic knife skills, and concepts of nutrition and safety.
- Child Cooking (4–7): Focus on simple, fun tasks such as stirring, pouring, assembling, and decorating.
- Ensure aprons with sponsor logo are ordered and provided.
High Hopes Challenge Support:
- Recruit and support Teen Kid Coaches.
- Plan and organize the High Hopes Meet and Greet (May) and Kick-Off Event (September).
- Provide
day-of-event support, including:
- Waiver confirmation.
- Activity supervision and logistics support for Teen Kid Coaches.
General Duties
- Plan and develop safe programs for children and families affected by childhood cancer.
- Develop promotional materials and ensure that promotions are delivered to families and community stakeholders in a timely fashion.
- Represent Kids Cancer Care when speaking to campers, families, donors, other stakeholders and the general public.
- Coordinate and facilitate programs as outlined below.
- Maintain monthly reporting standards and compile annual statistics.
- Attend recreation, child development, program management and other related courses and seminars as part of ongoing professional development.
- Work directly with volunteers at specific teen and family programs providing support and guidance in executing the program.
Qualifications
- University degree, or post-secondary education with experience in the fields of recreation, education, kinesiology – with a major in adapted physical activity, child development studies or related social field.
- Experience in program planning with varying group size and with children, teens, staff and volunteers.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, self-motivated and result driven.
- Ability to work flexible hours, with frequent evening and weekend work.
- A demonstrated ability with computers and relevant software (Office, MailChimp, Canva). Database proficiency with EZ Camp is an asset.
- Ensure policies and guidelines of KCC are adhered to across all programs.
- Work well under pressure and can manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to work in both a team environment and individually.
- Good oral and written communication skills including an excellent telephone manner is required.
- Must provide a current Level II Criminal Records Check which includes vulnerable sector.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable car.
- Certificate in CPR level C and First Aid.
