Reporting to the Director of Procurement, the Strategic Buyer is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling activities related to the entire tender management process and the inventory of current contractual commitments. Based in the Montreal office, the Strategic Buyer will work a 5-2 schedule with the possibility of teleworking and occasional travel to the Windfall site.
Duties and responsibilities
•Comply with occupational health and safety and environmental policies and rules at all times;
•Plan strategic procurement needs with requesters and your immediate supervisor;
•Define and implement strategies to achieve cost reduction objectives;
•Produce the documentation required for calls for tenders with departments;
•Take charge of calls for tenders assigned by your supervisor;
•Identify new sources of supply to reduce risks;
•Pre-qualify bidders;
•Organize and participate in meetings with departments and suppliers;
•Negotiate with bidders;
•Perform analyses in close collaboration with departments;
•Produce PowerPoint presentations;
•Draft recommendations for management;
•Handle the contract signing process;
•Maintain an up-to-date register of current contractual obligations;
•Ensure compliance with company policies;
•Apply and comply with all standards, regulations, codes, and laws in force at Gold Fields;
•Keep your workplace tidy, clean, and safe;
•Act respectfully toward stakeholders;
•May be asked to place purchase orders at the request of your immediate supervisor;
•Perform any other tasks related to the position of strategic buyer that are relevant to the success of the project.
Required qualifications
•Hold a college diploma in administration or a combination of experience and education may be considered;
•Have five years of experience in a similar position;
•Very good knowledge of the mining industry;
•Valid Class 5 driver's license;
•Bilingualism (French and English). Will be required to contact English-speaking suppliers and draft contracts in English.
Technical skills
•Ability to work comfortably with computer systems;
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access);
•Knowledge of SAP software (an asset);
•Proficiency in the DocuSign platform.
Basic skills
•Excellent teamwork skills and ability to develop harmonious relationships with colleagues and various suppliers;
•Possess good organizational, planning, and priority management skills;
•Have good written and verbal communication skills;
•Have strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
•Be able to work independently with minimal supervision;
•Have good stress management and self-control skills.
