Overview

A Talent Development Specialist is responsible for working with students while they study. The goal of this work is to prepare the students for practicum and employment. This means polishing up their resumes, interview skills, and job-search techniques. This includes helping them get LinkedIn and making sure they are ready to hit the ground running. Talent Development Specialists will work closely with Placement Coordinators to ensure students are ready for a successful practicum and employment.

As a Talent Development Specialist with Robertson Workforce you will be tasked with the following duties. This is not an exhaustive list, but should guide you on your path.

  • Provide coaching and guidance to students to ensure they are equipped with the skills and information required to conduct themselves professionally on practicum

  • Review and revise resumes in advance of practicum placements to help students and graduates

  • Interview preparation via various methods of contact (phone, web, email, in person, etc.)

  • Conduct mock interviews to help students avoid pitfalls and ace that interview

  • Help students manage their social media connections – especially LinkedIn

  • Get students up to speed on what work in their field may look like

  • Helping students to understand what a starting job looks like in their chosen field

  • Coach graduates in undertaking an effective employment search and help prepare graduates to source work in their chosen field

  • Delivers well prepared and coached students to the Workforce Agency Placement Team

  • Provides career advice and resources to students and recent graduates, including assisting students in identifying strengths and barriers to employment; developing job readiness, job search and career management skills.

  • Maintains a student career resource centre, as well as provides assistance to students in the use of social media and tips and techniques to access relevant career information

  • Updates and manages Resume Bank

  • Other departmental duties as required (such as reporting, student/grad employment initiatives, etc.) 

Requirements:

  • Strong desire to help student achieve their employment goals

  • Post secondary education, certificate or diploma in Human Resources with a focus on Recruitment

  • Hands on experience sourcing and recruiting candidates

  • Empathy, compassion and an interest in people

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain meaningful relationships with students

  • Strong team-work and holistic approach to work

  • Desire to learn and develop new skills

  • Skilled in interviewing students to draw out key accomplishments and present their work history in a compelling manner. 

  • Exceptional Problem-solving abilities and ability to think outside the box

Ideally:

  • Certified in Recruitment would be an asset 

  • CRM experience, especially Salesforce is an asset

  • Strong skills in resume writing and interviewing and recruitment skills.

  • Customer service experience

  • Strong grasp of LinkedIn features and functions 

  • Strong understanding of Robertson programs


KPIs and Metrics:

  • Contact rate of no less than 5% for students in unknown status 

  • Employment Strategy Tracker metrics(ESTs) - 80% complete before handoff to Placement Team

  • Code of conduct document obtained before handoff

  • ESS sessions a priority / 50% of week dedicated to meeting with students

  • Candidate Pipeline and Resume Bank updated regularly

  • White glove list flagged and addressed with Placement and Industry Teams

  • Practical project pipeline updated regarding valid pre-approved PPs

  • Regular one-on-one with team lead

  • Hand-off to placement team - Employment status complete where applicable

  • PCC report with averages over 70% employment rate in field of study

Other KPIs and Metrics may be added once structure is established

Location: Calgary and Edmonton

  • 8 hour shift

  • Monday to Friday
