Payroll Specialist

Reporting to our Director of Human Resources, the Payroll Specialist will be responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll and administering group benefits for all employees in a timely and accurate manner

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for all employees in a timely and accurate manner
  • Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies and resolve issues
  • Maintain employee records within Payworks
  • Perform data entry tasks related to payroll adjustments, deductions, and benefits
  • Process terminations and issue records of employment
  • Collaborate with the HR department to ensure accurate employee classifications and compliance with labor laws
  • Process benefit enrollments, changes and terminations
  • Claim Wage Enhancement Grants from the Government of Alberta
  • Generate payroll reports for management review and audits
  • Train employees and managers on how to use Payworks
  • Assist employees with payroll-related inquiries and provide support as needed
  • Preparing and processing T4, taxable benefits, garnishee, WCB and other year-end payroll tasks
  • Stay updated on changes in payroll regulations and best practices

Qualifications and Educational Requirements:

  •  A PCP designation will be considered an asset
  • 2+ years of payroll experience required
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Experience with HRIS platforms such as Payworks
  • Strong analytical skills to assess data accuracy and resolve discrepancies
  • Excellent data entry skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Knowledge of human resources practices related to payroll processing
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks effectively
  • Strong communication skills for interaction with employees and management
