POSITION SUMMARY:

The Youth, Teen, & Family Activities Assistant position supports the work of the YMCA of Collier County, Inc., a leading not-for-profit organization committed to strengthening the communities in Collier County through its core focus areas of Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.  In this role, the individual will aid in facilitating the Middle School Summer Travel Camp, family nights, literacy events, and more. They also will be required to step in to supervise birthday parties, Parent's Night Out, and any other events that may arise. The Youth, Teen, & Family Activities Assistant will directly report to the Youth, Teen, & Family Activities Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Be familiar with YMCA mission, policies and procedures.
  • Assist in facilitating the Middle School Summer Travel Camp, family nights, and literacy events.
  • Supervise birthday parties, Parent's Night Out, and any other youth & family events that may arise.
  • Take overall responsibility for an assigned group of children under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Always monitor and ensure the safety of children.

  • Report all problems, incidents, and accidents to their supervisor as they occur.

  • Motivate, mentor, and hold students to YMCA behavioral expectations.

  • Promote a positive relationship with parents by making a point of greeting them daily, sharing good news about their children with them, and informing them of any relevant information in a timely manner.

  • Assist with coordination, planning, and execution of specific Youth & Family Department events throughout the year such as (but not limited to) Healthy Kids Day, Lights on Afterschool, Give Where You Live, and either the YMCA Annual Gala or Sneaker Ball.

  • Educate members about the services the YMCA offers and further connect them to the YMCA.

  • Be an enthusiastic, dedicated, reliable and committed leader of our team.


*Every duty connected with the Youth, Teen, & Family Activities Assistant position cannot be specified in the position description and the colleague, at the discretion of the CEO, may be required to perform duties that are not included in this job description.



QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Certification in Infant, Child and Adult CPR, and Basic First Aid (preferred).
  • Must have own transportation.
  • Must be available to work full day shifts three weeks of the summer for Middle School Travel Camp.
  • Must be available to work evening & weekend shifts, when applicable.
  • Must be willing to work at both locations of the YMCA of Collier County (Naples & Marco Island), when necessary.

  • Must be able to articulate and communicate effectively while instructing participants.

  • Must have a positive attitude and ability to work independently.

  • Demonstrate leadership ability.

  • Committed to the goals of the program and approach.

  • Love and respect for children.

  • Knowledge of children’s sports, games, activities and programming preferred.

  • Must have outstanding verbal, written, and technological skills (familiar with utilizing Google Drive).

  • Ability to effectively manage a group of 20-25 school age children.

  • Ability to recognize children’s social and emotional needs and address appropriately.

  • Ability to thrive, adjust, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

  • Willingness to be a team player and assist wherever needed. 

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

  • Must be able to meet the Association’s background screening requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Must be able to stand, remain outdoors, and maintain continual physical endurance for extended periods of time.  Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs, watch, listen, and facilitate group activities.

  • Must be mentally alert and be able to process and follow directions.

  • Must be able to speak, read, and write fluently in the English Language. Proficiency in a second language is preferred, but not required.
