We are looking for Early Learning Childcare Educators (ELCE) who will be funded by Canada Summer Jobs Grant 2024, to support two (2) or our childcare centers and our Out-of-School program. If you have a passion for working with children, are an independent and motivated individual with an understanding and desire to learn more about Early Childhood Development, we would like to hear from you.

This position will be working along side certified ELC Educators.  

Locations: 

  • Edmonton Northwest Centre -- 12823 116 Avenue, NW, Edmonton, AB
  • Out of School Care -- 11515 127 Street NW, Edmonton, AB
  • Early Learning Childcare Centre -- 11130 131 Street NW, Edmonton, AB 

Job Type: 

  • We are looking to fill four (4) positions
  • 8 Week Temporary Position
  • This summer position is funded through the Canada Summer Job government grant

Hours of Work:  7 hours per day / 5 days per week / Monday to Friday  

Schedule:   

  • Hours vary between 7am and 6pm
  • Shifts are seven (7) hours per day with a one-hour unpaid lunch

Start date: 

  • Flexible for the childcare centres
  • Earliest June 24, 2024 for the Out-of-School Care program

Contract length:  8 weeks

Position Summary:

  • The Early Learning Childcare Educator (ELCE) works as part of a team to care for children in a positive, compassionate, and respectful manner.
  • The ELCE is a natural nurturer, promoting wellbeing and encouraging growth and development in children in addition to respecting each child’s uniqueness and individual needs.
  • This position will plan and implement a creative, flexible program based on children’s interests and sound theory and practice.
  • This position will display a sincere attitude of acceptance and respect for all children and their families and promote the philosophy that all children have the right to be included in all community programs.
  • Program supervision in an environment that meets the children’s physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment for the children.
  • Prepare and arrange necessary equipment and materials.
  • This position will help with the planning and implementation of activities that are related to summer programming, (eg. age appropriate indoor and outdoor activities which will enhance the children's social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and creative development). Curriculum planning will include areas such as science, math, social and dramatic play, literacy, dancing, gymnastics, sports, gardening, music, multicultural activities, with the planning based on the children's interests.
  • This position will support the curriculum and the children's learning in many ways, in both planned and spontaneous play, by implementing activities and following the interest of the children ages one to five in our childcare centres and ages kindergarten to 12 at our Out-of-School centre.
  • Staff will be required to do extra sanitization and sterilization of equipment, toys and high touch areas.
  • This position will take turns walking around the rooms, entrance ways and building and wiping down doorknobs, handles, bathrooms and other high touch areas in addition to tracking and keeping a daily log of these tasks.
  • Maintain timely communication with appropriate personnel regarding the children and the program.
  • Regular outdoor work is required, including during inclement weather.
  • This position may require frequent kneeling and squatting up to 75% of the shift.

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • This position should have or be willing to obtain the Childcare Staff Qualification Certificate Level 1 (or higher)
  • Experience and/or education in working with children ages one to five OR ages kindergarten to twelve is an asset.
  • Ability to work in a high energy environment with changing priorities as required
  • Clear Police Record Check dated within 6 months of the start date  (Please note the Police record check must be completed prior to start date at the employee’s expense).
  • Clear Child Intervention Check dated within 6 months of the start date. 
  • Standard Childcare First Aid and CPR would be an asset.
  • Strong written, verbal and organizational skills with ability to work both independently and as a team player.
