YMCA Summer Camp Leaders
Come join our team of Summer Camp Leaders! We are building a team of leaders for our YMCA Summer Day Camps that operate July 4 - August 22. Spend 3-7 weeks of your summer running a fun program and making a difference in the lives kids aged 6-13! Each week you will be scheduled at one of 2 camps, located either at the Downtown YMCA or at Blackstrap Lake, with busing provided to & from Blackstrap from various areas around Saskatoon.

Position: YMCA Blackstrap & Super Summer Day Camp Leader
The Camp Leaders are an integral part of the camp experience. Camp Leaders will be responsible for their group of campers, going through day-to-day activities, setting up activities, cleaning up, ensuring everyone's safety, and most importantly creating a safe, fun, and community environment. They will work closely with the Camp Team Leads to lead activities for the campers and make sure the activities go smoothly. Camp Leaders must work a minimum of 3 weeks of camp out of the 7 weeks. You must work full days and full weeks.
The Role of the Day Camp Leader is to:
- Deliver programs for Day Camp participants following YMCA objectives
- Appreciate and support YMCA values, mission and vision
- Demonstrate energy, dedication and enthusiasm with commitment to service excellence and quality
- Thrive in an atmosphere of change and ambiguity
- Work as a member of a team
Responsibilities:
- Be punctual and follow through with commitment to work as scheduled
- Participate in staff training (June 21, July 2, July 3) & complete our Y Canada Child Safeguarding Course (online)
- Provide fun, positive, and active leadership to campers
- Be a friend and mentor to campers by creating a caring, supportive, environment where campers feel that they can take risks, make new friends, and try new things
- Follow and enforce bus rules and procedures, including being responsible for children at your bus stop until they are safely with their caregivers
- Communicate effectively with campers, their families, and other staff members
- Maintain communication with the Camp Team Leads and the Camp Manager
- Be responsible for the safety and security of all participants in your care, always following the YMCA Policies and Procedures
- Ensuring cleanliness and upkeep of facilities
- Diligently complete all paperwork each day including sign-in/sign out forms and any behavior or incident reports
- Some overtime work may be required
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Current criminal reference check including vulnerable sector search
- Previous experience and positive references related to working with children/youth
- Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults
- Comfortable swimming and being in the water with children
- Up to Date Standard First Aid and CPR certification is an asset
