Job Summary

The Wholesale Perishable Buyer will play an integral role within the Purchasing Department. Key responsibilities include procuring raw and perishable materials, managing stock levels and maintaining supplier relationships. This position is responsible for providing the highest level of service possible to our customers, vendors, co-workers, and community.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Replenish products through proper buying procedures
  • Ensure product orders are timely and accurate to monitor inventory turns
  • Ensure the product mix meets varied customer needs and requests
  • Provide outstanding customer service; ensure customer needs are met in a timely fashion
  • Monitor product quality and freshness and ensure proper rotation or product
  • Maintain accurate department signage and pricing
  • Build displays according to movement, promotions, profitability, value, and regional guidance
  • Oversee customer special order process
  • Educate team members and customers on new, local and private label products
  • Follow department procedures for preparing, storing, rotating, and stocking of product
  • Maintain and monitor department waste, spoilage, sweep, and transfer logs
  • Maintain a clean and well-organized work area
  • Follow and comply with established procedures, including weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • 1 - 2 years of experience
  • Must possess math skills
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Highly organized
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Excellent planning, execution, and project management skills
  • Multitasking ability
  • Excellent computer skills/Experience in Microsoft tools (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word) for significant data manipulation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong leadership capabilities
  • Good knowledge of vendor sourcing practices (researching, evaluating and liaising with vendors)
  • Able to work well independently and in a team setting
  • Occasional travel is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS degree or equivalent
  • Bilingual Spanish/English
