POSITION SUMMARY:

The Wellness Floor Staff is responsible for providing customer service to members in the Wellness Center and Free Weight Room and follows the YMCA of the USA Health and Fitness guidelines.  The Wellness Staff creates a safe, enjoyable, and positive atmosphere that promotes member wellness in accordance with the YMCA policies and procedures.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.    Build relationships by initiating conversations with all members, staff, volunteers and guests.

2.    Understands, supports and is committed to the YMCA cause and our role in the community as a leader.

3.    Provide quality wellness coaching for members through “Fit Start†appointments (blood pressure, heart rate, body composition, flexibility, etc.).

4.    Participate in instructing various programs which may include Adult and/or Youth Fitness Consultations and Exercise Equipment Orientations.

5.    Ability to serve as a positive role model and provide constructive feedback

6.    Responsible for assuring high standards of program quality and safety in accordance with YMCA safety and risk management policies.  Reviews program statistics. Monitors, evaluates and modifies the effectiveness of the program.

7.    Adhere to all policies and procedures as set forth in the employee handbook, director handbook, department handbook, emergency response plan manual including Child Abuse Prevention.

8.    Communicate assertively in ensuring and enforcing policies and guidelines for the equipment area along with keeping this area safe, clean, and functional.

9.    Encourage members to participate in health and fitness programs such as personal training, small group classes, specialty classes, group exercise classes, etc.

10.  Performs other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.     Education and/or experience related to fitness, exercise physiology, or health and wellness.

2.    CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 60 days of hire (YMCA provided).

3.     Preferred bachelor’s degree or pursuing degree in Health/Exercise Science or related field.

4.    Preferred National Certification in Personal Training: ACE, ACSM, NSCA, NASM, ISSA, AFAA, or other approved and accredited certifications.

5.     Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills.

6.     Ability to work with all age groups and ability levels.

7.     Ability to understand member needs and communicate the benefits of participating in health and wellness programs, including Personal Training.

8.    Must be reliable, courteous, and a positive role model.

9.    Never been accused or convicted of any child abuse. Physical, Verbal, Sexual, Mental Abuse or Neglect.

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position.  Perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing for extended periods of time, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time. The ability to calmly and effectively react in an emergency situation.
