About the Role

The Volunteer Program and Navigation Services Lead plays a pivotal role in aligning the Volunteer and Navigator programs with the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of Community Services. This role focuses on developing and implementing organization-wide volunteer management strategies to enhance engagement, build program capacity, and foster leadership within the volunteer community, while maintaining strong relationships across departments.

What You’ll Do

Lead the staff team in planning, developing, and delivering daily activities that support participant health and development.

Oversee the Navigator Program, including the Keeping People Housed Program, and manage daily operations of the SCCSS Thrift Store, ensuring efficient staff scheduling and providing coverage as needed.

Foster a welcoming environment at the SCCSS Thrift Store for all stakeholders, including customers, donors, clients, and volunteers.

Develop and implement volunteer program strategies, ensuring policies and manuals are current, while handling volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and training.

Create and manage engagement opportunities and volunteer placements, focusing on diversity, inclusion, and leadership development.

Lead volunteer recognition initiatives to foster engagement and appreciation.

Provide mentorship and support to staff and volunteers, ensuring policy compliance and promoting safety, development, and organizational capacity.

Collaborate with SCCSS staff to identify and enhance volunteer placements, and work with Communications to update online volunteer opportunities.

Represent the volunteer program at events, maintain program documentation, and compile reports, including reviews and statistical summaries for funders.

Work with the Manager to develop and oversee the program budget, ensuring adherence and applying for grants to support volunteer programming.

Partner with the Manager and People and Culture department on all aspects of staff and volunteer management, including recruitment, training, supervision, and performance evaluation.

What You Bring

Two years of experience managing a volunteer program, plus a certificate in Volunteer Management from a recognized program or equivalent education and experience.

Familiarity with the rent bank model and knowledge of community resources.

Understanding of social enterprises and retail experience.

Knowledge of non-profit culture and the unique needs of volunteers.

Demonstrated cultural competency and experience working with diverse populations, including experience in event planning.

Excellent communication skills, including interpersonal, verbal, written, presentation, and workshop facilitation.

Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to adapt communications for a wide audience and prioritize tasks effectively.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to work well both as part of a team and independently.

Flexible schedule to accommodate evening and/or weekend events.

Additional Information

Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for meetings and events across the Coast.

Successful completion of a criminal records check

May have to work from various location (indoors and outdoors) for different event and support volunteers
