Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays during the daytime; minimum 3 hours per week

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Coordinator of Health and Active Living, the A.I.M. volunteer will assist with the facilitation of programming. Programming happens in the Aquatics Centre, group fitness studios, at the track, and in the weight room. A.I.M. volunteers will help participants pursue their health and fitness goals in an organized, welcoming, and inclusive manner.
Responsibilities
- Arrive to the site a minimum of 15 minutes before the A.I.M. program starts.
- Assist instructor with administrative tasks such as taking class attendance, especially for any participants who join after class has started.
- Assist instructor with facilitation of the class, including demonstrations, providing assistance to participants, and if certified, run the class.
- Provide a safe, supportive, and motivating environment for all.
- Assist members with their individual and group fitness programs; this could include assistance with walking, using equipment, equipment set up or providing new exercise variations and/or modifications.
- Help ensure participants are putting away and cleaning their own equipment at the end of the class.
- Help the instructor ensure the space is clean and tidy before leaving.
- Maintain clear, frequent, and open communication with the Coordinator and the instructor at the assigned site(s), especially if running late or being unable to volunteer during an assigned program.
- Assist the instructor with documenting any incidents or accidents, no matter how minor, and communicate these back to the Coordinator on the same day.
Qualifications & Skills
- Valid First Aid and CPR-C.
- Dedication to safety and quality.
- Strong work ethic and desire for cleanliness and tidiness.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Fitness certification(s) and teaching experience considered an asset: Group Fitness Instructor, Yoga Instructor, Personal Trainer, Kinesiology student (or similar program).
- Experience working with people with disabilities, chronic diseases and/or mobility concerns an asset.
