Job Summary

  • The Technician II is responsible for client and patient care, assisting the veterinarian and other team members.

General Accountabilities    

  • Provide quality service through accurate use of data entry, veterinary assistant duties, and compassionate care for pets in our hospital and boarding facility.
  • Promote hospital services and products; support staff members through knowledge of hospital procedures, protocols, etc.
  • Establish a trust between MAH and our clients.
  • Maintain the established service, safety, and housekeeping standards.
  • Learn effective communication skills with clients and outside contacts.
  • Conduct self as a professional to all employees.
  • Tasks include: prepare and administer vaccinations, injections, perform venipuncture, set catheters, take vital signs of cats & dogs, properly restrain animals, including fractious pets, for examination and treatment.  Give treatments/medications by IV, IM, SQ and orally; take radiographs; prepare laboratory tests including fecal, urinalysis, skin scraping, fungal cultures, in-house blood tests, etc.  Knowledge of bandaging techniques, wound management, dentistry, and asepsis.  Monitor anesthesia and recover surgical patients; must be able to work well independently and in a group.  Customer service duties include telephone calls – scheduling appointments and surgeries; dispense medications, pet foods, and supplies.  Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Support and set as an example hospital protocols and MAH Standards.
  • Comply with safety standards within OSHA regulations.

Qualifications

  • Prerequisite is two plus (2+) years’ experience in the field as a veterinary technician with good client communication and telephone skills.
  • Must be able to read, speak, and write in English; however, being bilingual is a plus.  Must write legibly.
  • Knowledge of computer software, math computation and the ability to handle multiple unrelated tasks simultaneously which working in a busy environment is necessary.
  • Ability to lift 50-pounds.
  • Work on feet all day

  • Required High School Diploma or GED

  • Specific vision abilities required are:  close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust or focus
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms
  • Frequently required to talk or hear
  • Occasionally required to bend, lift, or climb
  • Often required to lift light weights (less than 25 pounds)
  • Occasionally required to lift moderate weights (25-40 pounds)
  • Infrequently required to lift, with assistance, weight 50 pounds or above

 Work Environment:

  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts
  • Exposure to fumes or airborne particles
  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Possible risk of electrical shock
  • Possible risk of radiation
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud with large amount of background noise
