Job Summary

  • The Technician Assistant supports the veterinary team during treatments and procedures, takes care of the everyday needs of pets in the hospital and boarding facility, and helps maintain the hospital facility keeping it neat and clean.

General Accountabilities    

  • Provide quality service through accurate use of data entry, sanitation duties, and compassionate care for pets in our hospital and boarding facility.
  • Promote hospital services and products; support staff members through knowledge of hospital procedures, protocols, etc.
  • Establish a trust between MAH and our clients.
  • Maintain the established service, safety, and housekeeping standards.
  • Learn effective communication skills with clients and outside contacts.
  • Conduct self as a professional to all employees.
  • Duties include:  Restraint of pets for veterinarians and other technicians. Assist in the taking of x-rays, cleaning, and preparation of surgical packs; Monitor, record, and report physical signs of hospitalized/boarded pets. Clean cages, runs, boarding area and/or hospital facilities, including bathrooms, doctor’s office.  Help maintain reception area in a neat and sanitary condition.  Provide clean bedding, water, and litter pans for pets. Feed hospitalized/boarded pets as directed; Exercise hospitalized/boarded dogs.  Take incoming pets to appropriate areas.  Bathe pets and prepare pets for discharge.  Retrieve pets that are being discharged; Restock hospital areas as directed.  Do laundry; wash and sanitize pet dishes; perform other duties as assigned.
  • Support and set as an example hospital protocols and MAH Standards
  • Comply with safety standards within OSHA regulations. 

Qualifications

  • Must have a sense of caring for the animals
  • Able to lift approximately 50-pounds
  • Walk dogs of up to 120-pounds
  • Work on feet all day
  • Read and understand English; however, being bilingual is a plus.
  • Can multitask and prioritize
  • Required High School Diploma or GED

  • Occasionally required to sit
  • Frequently required to stand and walk
  • Required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel – finger dexterity and hand coordination required
  • Specific vision abilities required are:  close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust or focus
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms
  • Frequently required to talk or hear
  • Occasionally required to bend, lift, or climb
  • Often required to lift light weights (less than 25 pounds)
  • Occasionally required to lift moderate weights (25-40 pounds)
  • Infrequently required to lift, with assistance, weight 50 pounds or above

 Work Environment:

  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts
  • Exposure to fumes or airborne particles
  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Possible risk of electrical shock
  • Possible risk of radiation
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud with large amount of background noise
