Van Driver
The Town of Cohasset, an active waterfront community on the South Shore, is looking for a Van Driver for Elder Affairs. The team at the Town of Cohasset is known for being dynamic and collaborative, and we truly enjoy providing services to the community. We are seeking a new team member who can hit the ground running and work in partnership with our talented colleagues and community, bringing new ideas and positive initiatives.
Pay rate : PT 4 step 8 $19.67.
up to 19 hours a week. Monday + Tuesday Availability required.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
An integral member of Elder Affairs staff, this person will have an overall working knowledge of the mission, programs, services, and activities conducted by or through the auspices of Cohasset Elder Affairs; understand that the apex of the transport program is the safe pick up and return of all clientele to their homes
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
● Provide transport to seniors for Elder Affairs sponsored programs and return them home
● Pick up and deliver food pantry food to seniors
● Pick up lunch at local restaurants and deliver to CEA
● Pick up emergency necessities for CEA
● Provide transport to clients for medical appointments or for other medically-related purposes
● Provide van transport to individual seniors for unscheduled purposes
● Gas up vans /assist with inspections/deliver vans for repair work
● Distribute VISTA (monthly newsletter) to Cohasset area locations when necessary
● Assist with errands to Town Hall as necessary
● Participate in MIIA Driver Training Course at least 1/year, or as offered
● Participate in MAP5 Driver Training Course at least 1/year, or as offered
● Participate in wheelchair certification training 1/year
● Routinely inspect vans for normal wear and tear, and accident residue before each use
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS
● Valid Massachusetts operator’s license
● Excellent knowledge of safe driving regulations and laws
● Excellent driving record
● Satisfactory CORI check
● Ability to be certified in wheelchair lift training
CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES, AND SKILLS
● Ability to relate and work well with seniors, staff, volunteers, and the public at large.
● Flexibility to work in changing situations and emergency conditions
● Willingness to occasionally work irregular hours
● Must observe the highest level of confidentiality at all times
● Good sense of humor recommended
As often as possible, van schedules are developed for routine pick up, drop-off and delivery. However, there may be times when additional tasks may be asked of the driver. Flexibility is a key attribute in the successful Elder Affairs van driver.
The driver must always be mindful that many of the seniors we transport are the frailest residents in our community and the driver should supervise closely transfers on and off the van, and take the necessary precautions to provide for a safe transport at all times.
All offers of employment are conditional upon the satisfactory completion of a Criminal offense record inquiry ( CORI check), pre-employment DOT physical examination, drug test & all other background checks where required.
