Position Title: Theatre Technician (full-time, one-year contract)

OVERVIEW

 

Ridley College is seeking a skilled and collaborative Theatre Technician to support the delivery of high-quality performances and events across our campus. Working within the Theatre & Presentation Services team, this role is critical to ensuring seamless production support for a wide range of activities—from student performances to major school events. This posting is for a full-time, one-year contract and an existing vacancy.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

·       Support the technical setup, execution, and tear-down of performances, events, and campus activities

·       Assist with lighting, sound, rigging, and stage operations, including installation, programming, and maintenance

·       Perform stage carpentry, set construction, and scenic installation using a variety of power tools, hand tools, and theatre-production equipment

·       Support rigging activities and work safely at heights using ladders, catwalks, and aerial work platforms in accordance with established safety procedures

·       Provide audio-visual support, including livestreaming and event recording

·       Conduct routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and organization of theatre and presentation assets to ensure equipment remains safe, reliable, and operational

·       Collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and external rental groups to deliver professional event experiences

·       Ensure all work is completed in alignment with safety standards and best practices

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

·     Diploma in Theatre Production, Theatre Technology, Technical Theatre, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered

·     Minimum 2 years of relevant technical theatre or event production experience

·     Experience with theatrical lighting, sound, projection, and stagecraft, including installation, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of production equipment

·     Experience with stage carpentry, set construction, and the safe operation of power tools, hand tools, and theatre-production equipment

·     Working knowledge of tools such as QLab, livestreaming platforms, and basic networking systems

·     Knowledge of theatrical rigging practices and the ability to work safely at heights using ladders, catwalks, scaffolding, and aerial work platform

·     Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced, event-driven environment

·     Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a strong client-service mindset
