Technicien (ne) Traitement d'eau / Water treatment technician
Reporting to the Environmental Supervisor, the Water Treatment Technician will be responsible for the planning and strategies of the water treatment system, as well as ensuring its operation and sampling. The Water Treatment Technician will work closely with the Water Treatment Operators, the Environmental Supervisor, the Environmental Labourer, Surface Plant personnel and other members of the Company. Based at the Windfall site, located in the Nord-du-Québec region, he/she will be required to work a schedule of 15 days on, 13 days off. Transportation, accommodation and meals provided
Duties and responsibilities
- Participate in water treatment planning based on factors influencing treatment: seasons, water volume (rainfall and melt), etc;
- Participate in planning the maintenance and repair of all effluent treatment system components (pumps, pipes, valves, etc.);
- Participate in the supervision of water treatment operators by communicating treatment planning, ad hoc strategies and tasks related to equipment maintenance and repairs;
- Help train water treatment operators;
- Ensure proper operation of all components and units involved in water treatment, including start-up and shut-down.
- Participate in the development of work procedures;
- Perform various tests (pH, ammonia nitrogen, etc.) to adjust water treatment;
- Collect various treatment system data (flow rates, pH, turbidity, etc.) and enter them in databases;
- Ensure that the various reagents required for water treatment have been filled;
- Maintain the water treatment system, including winterizing equipment;
- Carry out effluent sampling in accordance with the standards and frequency dictated in Directive 019, and send samples to the various laboratories;
- Always advocate (in decisions, actions, etc.) protection of the environment, and take into account all aspects of sustainable development (economic, social, ecological);
- Prioritize occupational health and safety in the design, tasks and work performed for the company and its various associated companies;
- Ensure that all the Company's environmental policies and procedures are respected;
- Work as a team by collaborating, sharing information and maintaining effective communication;
- Comply at all times with occupational health and safety and environmental policies and regulations;
- Perform any other tasks related to the Water Treatment Technician position in order to ensure the success of the project.
Qualifications required
- Diploma in water treatment;
- Valid class 5 driving license;
- Good knowledge of English (an asset);
- Successful completion of mining modules 1-2-3-4-5 and 7, (an asset).
Technical skills
- (2) years' experience in water treatment (industrial water an asset);
- Intermediate level of Microsoft Excel spreadsheet skills;
- Intermediate knowledge of chemistry and science;
- Knowledge of pumping equipment and basic plumbing;
- WHMIS knowledge to work safely with chemicals.
Basic skills
- Be adaptable and open to change and constructive feedback;
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to recognize priorities;
- Communicating your ideas;
- Be autonomous, have initiative and be able to handle several files simultaneously;
- Good observation skills, logical and meticulous.
