POSITIONS AVAILABLE:

Team Lead 1: 

Full-time, 40 hours per week. Schedule is Sunday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Team Lead 2: 

Floater position, 32 hours per week. Schedule is Friday through Monday:
    •    Friday and Saturday: 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
    •    Sunday and Monday: 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Position Summary

The Shelter Team Lead provides frontline support while supervising Shelter Support Workers to ensure safe, trauma-informed, and effective shelter operations. This role supports participants in crisis, oversees shift operations, and ensures compliance with NVSSS policies, OPS protocols, and safety standards. The Team Lead works closely with the Shelter Manager and Executive Director to strengthen service delivery and staff support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support Shelter Support Workers during assigned shifts
  • Oversee daily shelter operations, participant intake, and shift transitions
  • Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and staff support
  • Enforce Overdose Prevention Site (OPS) protocols, including naloxone response
  • Conduct safety checks, wellness checks, and hazard assessments
  • Complete shift reports, KPIs, and maintain SharePoint communication logs
  • Track inventory (PPE, hygiene, harm reduction, donations)
  • Mentor staff in trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and cultural safety
  • Uphold privacy, confidentiality, and FOIPPA/HIFIS standards

Qualifications

  • Diploma/degree/certificate in Human Services or related field
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with homeless or marginalized populations
  • Experience supervising staff or leading shifts in crisis settings
  • Strong de-escalation, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working with mental health, substance use, and crisis situations
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of Merritt community resources and Indigenous cultural safety (asset)
  • Passion for ending homelessness in BC

Working Conditions

  • Possible exposure to infectious or hazardous materials (PPE provided)
