JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:  Teacher Assistant FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

Reports to: Principal Terms of Employment: 10 Months


Position description: Provide support to the teacher in the instruction of students. Performs and combination of following duties to assist teaching staff in the teaching-learning process for students. Drives bus as assigned.

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Discusses assigned duties with classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts in four areas: academic assistance, instructional preparation/support, monitoring student behavior, and report and record keeping.

  • Supervises groups of students in the classroom, cafeteria, library, playground and other areas as assigned.

  • Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids.

  • Presents subject matter to students, utilizing a variety of methods and techniques as directed by the teacher.

  • Prepares, administers, and grades student assignments.

  • Operates learning aids and/or technological equipment.

  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.

  • Assists teacher in preparation of reports and/or materials.

  • Assists in conferring with parents on progress of students.

  • Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children, of expected behavior of children, i.e. of basic child growth and development.

  • Working knowledge of the core subjects at the grade level to which employment assignment is made.

  • Evidence of good written and spoken communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

  • Ability to write simple correspondence.

  • Ability to record and store data accurately.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk and sometimes has to stoop, kneel, or crouch. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up 10 pounds and sometimes more.

  • Have the ability to work independently.

  • Safely operates school bus to transport students as assigned and required.


Minimum Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree preferable

  • Relevant experience working with children

  • Current valid CDL with P and S endorsements. If not licensed, must be willing to fulfill requirements and testing to become licensed at the earliest opportunity offered by the school.
