Supported Childcare Worker

Days/Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm (10 hours/week)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Facility Site Supervisor, the Supported Child Care Worker joins a caring and compassionate team dedicated to providing engaging and safe programs to the children and families they support in their community. The Supported Child Care Worker will be responsible for implementing creative and meaningful crafts and activities for a child ranging in age from 5 to 12 years old during our Afterschool Care programs while upholding the philosophies of Beacon Community Services.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement inclusive and developmentally age-appropriate activities while considering the unique mental, physical, and emotional needs of the child
- Actively engage in respectful communication and supervision of the child registered in the program by fostering a safe and nurturing learning environment
- Maintain daily attendance logs of the child, noting any changes in attendance communicated by the child’s parents to the Facility Site Supervisor
- Maintain open and respectful communication with parents regarding their child’s behaviour and engagement in the program, referring any concerns to the Facility Site Supervisor
- Prepare and provide nutritionally valuable foods for the child following Food Safe standards and guidelines
- Attend and actively participate in monthly staff meetings focused on program planning and development, offering feedback and suggestions to better promote the overall success of the program
- Maintain a respectful, positive and flexible working relationship with other members of staff
- Acknowledge and uphold the Beacon Community Services philosophies and policies, while also being aware of families' philosophies, to provide an inclusive, accepting and culturally aware program
- Value maintaining a clean, organized and visually attractive workspace
- Adhere to BC Child Care Regulations
- Other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- The successful Child Care Workers applicants are required to meet the Licensing Standards of a Responsible Adult as follows:
- Must be 19+ years of age
- Must have completed 20 hours of childcare education or courses
- Must have 3 positive references
- Experience working with a supported child in an out-of-school care program is an asset.
- Experience in an OSC program is an asset
- Supported childcare experience is an asset
- Experience with challenging behavior is an asset
- Valid OFA Level 1 First Aid Certificate
- Valid Food Safe Certificate (or completion of upon successful hire).
