More than a place to stay, we provide 24/7 crisis shelter and transitional housing on-site and, in the community, along with comprehensive services including education, counseling, health care, employment assistance, job training and after-care. Since 1982, Covenant House has supported more than 100,000 young people.

Purpose of Position

The Supervisor, Follow Up, is responsible for providing guidance and support to the staff team, developing action plans to assist youth in securing and maintaining housing, and ensuring the effective implementation of policies and procedures. The Supervisor will also play a key role in program management, quality assurance, and facilities management, while fostering a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment. Additionally, the Supervisor will engage in community partnerships and support the strategic goals of Covenant House Toronto. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for the direct management of the daily shift and the direct supervision of Youth Worker team
  • Hiring, supervision, evaluation, coaching, and termination of the Follow Up Worker team (full-time and part-time), and Peer Workers using a trauma-informed approach.
  • Convening monthly supervisions with program staff using reflective practice and trauma-informed supervision, supporting staff development and addressing performance management issues.
  • Facilitates program teams meetings and case management team meetings.
  • Responsible for overseeing staff schedules to ensure client need is met and safety of staff working in a mobile and independent capacity is supported 
  • Identify training needs and recommend training sessions for staff to engage in professional development activities as appropriate; and provide follow-up coaching to ensure adoption of new approaches or techniques.
  • Responsible for scheduling staff and ensuring payroll information is accurate in Payworks (this includes shifts worked and time off).
  • Liaise with City of Toronto about City funded programs as required 
  • Communicate with referring community partners on CHT community housing programs. 
  • Ensuring that staff adhere to Covenant House’s policies and procedures.
  • Making recommendations for appropriate case action plans.
  • Managing petty cash float, tokens and cab vouchers.
  • Ensuring they and their staff are engaged with the youth and role model, the Trauma Informed Approach to care.
  • Responsible for providing services and support to young people that are co-coordinated and collaborative with other CHT and external care team members to ensure fulsome care. 
  • Manage program referrals, monitors waitlists, and ensures timely allocations to the team’s caseloads. in accordance with the process determined by the City of Toronto’s Coordinated Access team.  
  • Work with the Manager to identify gaps in service and play a collaborative and creative role in the development and design of new programs and revision to existing programs in portfolio that align with CHT’s strategic plan and annual service plans. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must have degree/undergraduate degree in Social Work, Psychology, Child and Youth Care, Sociology or equivalent
  • Experience with inputting data onto payroll and scheduling systems an asset
  • Demonstrated leadership, supervision skills and ability to develop an effective team with 2 years of supervisory experience is an asset 
  • Possess an understanding of the issues of youth homelessness and human trafficking and the barriers young people experiencing homelessness and/or human trafficking face in relation to employment, education, social inclusion, mental health, and wellbeing.  
  • Solid understanding of housing options for young people experiencing homelessness including experience working in transitional housing setting and an understanding of Housing First for Youth 
  • Experience working with private market landlords to support young people to have stable housing 
  • Understanding of and experience working in programs funded by the City of Toronto and other government agencies, 
  • Experience program reporting on complex programs involving multiple stakeholders 
  • Experience providing coaching and mentorship to Housing Workers 
  • Experience working with young people in community setting is an asset. 
  • Demonstrated exceptional level of interpersonal, communication, youth service and organizational skills. 
  • Dedication and openness to continued learning and improvement.  
  • An understanding of and personal commitment to anti-oppressive practices, and anti-racism practices.
