Department: Housing & Gender Based Violence Support Services
Reports to: Department Manager
Location: Hamilton, ON
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

Responsible for achieving and maintaining high standards in the overall delivery of Justice Services and integrated Harm reduction Services. The Supervisor will ensure staff are performing and delivering quality services to the clients, through evidence-based and trauma informed program development. This position is responsible for collaborating with the Management team across the Housing and Gender Based Violence (GBV) Services Department to ensure comprehensive service delivery and collaboration across programs. Provides guidance and coaching staff across programs to strengthen the practice of trauma-informed care.
· Responsible for supervising and development of Justice Service and Harm Reduction programs and services across Hamilton and surrounding areas through organization, planning and resourcing;
· Manages the performance of staff by maintaining positive and focused communication systems that support teamwork and promote collaborative working relationships, while ensuring compliance with legislation and YWCA Hamilton policies and procedures;
· Under the direction of the Manager, Low Barrier and Harm reduction Services, participates in the recruitment and selection, orientation, training and evaluation of staff to effectively fulfill staffing needs;
· Works effectively to support programs, events and advocacy around issues impacting women in conflict with the law, drug using women, from a sex-positive framework;
· Strong understanding of criminal law and justice processes that impact criminalized women and women who use drugs;
· Works collaboratively with Housing and GBV Services Management team to support program development and implementation, process and policy development as well as measure and track outcomes and client satisfaction;
· Coaching and consultation on cases presenting as high risk, supporting staff in safety planning & risk assessment;
· Coaching and guidance to staff across programs to strengthen the practice of trauma informed care;
· Provides oversight on deliverables and reporting across programs and supports development of service delivery models and approaches to meet funder expectations;
· Tracks and communicates trends and service gaps to Manager and provides recommendations to address through responsive and innovation programming;
· Maintains appropriate and accurate record keeping (documentation/reports) including safe storage of confidential information, timely data entry, and objective case noting, in accordance with YWCA’s policies and procedures;
· Maintains accurate records/statistics and evaluation information related to the activities undertaken/outcomes achieved;
· Implements appropriate program guidelines and procedures/templates for program to ensure consistency and excellence;
· Provides program reports to Manager as required;
· Attends industry related networking events and representing the YWCA on community committees;
· Represents the YWCA Hamilton and always maintains outstanding public relations skills and a professional image in the community;
· Nurtures and forms meaningful internal and external working relationships and partnerships;
· Stays current on emerging trends, leading practices and legislation;
· Support Manager with budget as needed;
· Directly manages 4-6 employees; including recruiting, training and evaluating performance; Demonstrates and model’s strong leadership behaviors as a member of the YWCA leadership team;
· Fosters a safe and healthy work environment; ensures employees comply with health, safety standards that meet or exceed legislated requirements;
· Maintains high level of confidentiality and privacy when working with employee and client information;
· Participates in mandatory organizational and departmental training and meetings;
· Understands emerging trends, leading practices, industry professional standards;
· Develops and nurtures meaningful internal and external working relationships with service teams and partnerships;
· Supports YWCA’s mission, vision and values;
· Performs other duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Works 37.5 hours work week;
· Occasional evenings and weekends may be required;
· Ability to work a schedule which at times may include days, afternoons, and/or occasional weekends; and support and on-call rotation.
Qualifications
· Successful completion of a diploma or bachelor’s degree in social services, human services or health related discipline. Professional designation from an Ontario professional association or licensing body preferred;
· Minimum 2 years of demonstrated supervisory experience;
· Minimum 5 years of experience in the gender-based violence or social services sector;
· Knowledge and experience in the operations of a congregate setting, including, scheduling and problem solving;
· Strong understanding and experience working within Harm Reduction frameworks, particularly with residential/communal settings; • Ability to work flexible shifts, prioritize, and multitask in a 24/7 environment with multiple demands and conflicting priorities; • Broad knowledge of gender-based issues in the field of Violence against women (VAW), and knowledge and understanding of all legislation relevant to the position;
· Highly organized with strong administrative skills, with experience in facilitating staff meetings, setting agendas and guiding team dynamics within a group setting;
· Strong interpersonal skills in team leadership, interpersonal dynamics and coaching;
· An ability to work with compassion, to provide leadership on issues of social justice, and to work within anti-racism and anti-oppression frameworks;
· Sound knowledge of the Canadian criminal justice system, court processes and immigration and settlement systems;
· A strong understanding of factors that contribute to individuals’ involvement in the criminal justice system and the systemic causes of the over representation of women and gender diverse people with mental health and addictions issues in the criminal justice system;
· Knowledge of the Child Youth and Family Services Act and Immigration and Family Law is an asset;
· Experience in harm reduction frameworks within VAW, trauma-based counselling and education;
· Knowledge of community resources in the VAW sector;
· Strong skills using MS Office programs including Excel, Word, Outlook and program specific data collection/documentation software;
· Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police Check or willing to obtain at own cost;
· Must have current Standard First Aid and CPR certificate or willing to obtain at own cost;
· Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary organization;
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
· Must be able to work from a feminist, anti-racist/ anti-oppressive perspective and harm reduction framework;
· Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset.
