Duration: January to November 2026, with possibility of extension

Remuneration: $36/hour, 35 hours per week

MNLC is a vibrant settlement agency for newcomers to Canada, with three offices across the GTA and an Ontario-wide virtual presence offering a range of settlement and integration programs, supporting newcomers' participation in and contribution to all aspects of Canadian life. Our Community Mental Health Program offers emotional support to newcomers struggling with different kinds of stress or trauma. It promotes resilience, strength, and well-being at the individual and community levels.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Community Health Services team to deliver integrated mental health support.
  • Serve as a care provider, case manager, and interpreter, providing intake, assessment, and navigation services.
  • Conduct mental health intakes and assessments for clients with complex needs.
  • Provide individual psychotherapy in both English and Spanish (Required).
  • Supervise placement students from MNLC’s BREM or other CRPO-recognized programs, in delivering mental health intakes, assessments, and psychotherapy services
  • Focus on serving clients who face significant barriers to mental health care, including uninsured individuals (e.g., non-status), those who are unhoused or precariously housed, and survivors of trafficking or gender-based violence.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required, with the ability to provide clinical services in both languages.
  • Provide intervention to understand the factors contributing to the difficulties newcomer immigrants and refugees face.
  • Complete a mental health assessment utilizing biopsychosocial assessment tools.
  • Provide support and follow-up intervention.
  • Help identify mental health needs in specific cultural community groups and help plan effective interventions.
  • Provide individual, culturally appropriate mental health intervention.
  • Help to plan, coordinate, and facilitate different educational workshops on mental health for the selected population.
  • Attend and actively participate in peer support and supervision team meetings.
  • Maintain appropriate record-keeping/documentation, client files, statistical, and outcome measurement tools as Apricot procedures require.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with program teams and settlement workers to provide appropriate referrals in the community.

 Qualifications:

  • University degree in counselling, psychology, or mental health field.
  • Member in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and meet current CRPO Supervision Criteria:
    • Accumulated at least five years of extensive clinical experience,
    • Fulfill CRPO’s “independent practice” requirement, which includes 1000 direct client contact hours and 150 hours of clinical supervision, and
    • Completed 30 hours of directed learning in providing clinical supervision.
  • Submit a signed declaration affirming your understanding of CRPO’s definitions of clinical supervision and the scope of psychotherapy practice.
  • Strong understanding of migration experience in Canada and its impact on mental health.
  • Flexibility of scheduling (see below schedule).
  • Demonstrated experience with crisis intervention techniques and theories.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of risk assessments and suicide prevention.
  • Ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with a multidisciplinary team in the community.
  • Ability to function well under pressure.
  • Commitment to values of diversity, social change, and anti-oppression.
  • On-site days will align with the Health for All Partnership (HAP) clinic (typically Tues to Thurs) in the fall and winter academic semesters (eg. Jan -Apr 2026) and with the rest of the CHS team over the summer, with some flexibility for special events (e.g. partner organization visits).

The role will be supervised by both the Community Mental Health team (for peer support/learning) and the Community Health Services team (for scheduling and other admin functions).
