Superintendent/Foreman, Concrete and Civil

Summary Description: The basic function of the Superintendent/Foreman (Concrete and Civil) is to lead a crew on various marine and industrial construction projects, oversee all aspects of concrete work, including site preparation, placement, finishing, curing, and quality inspection. This is a hands-on leadership position that combines crew management and technical expertise.

Worksite Location(s): Most of our work is performed at remote worksites along the Mississippi River, south of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, or at our own yard in Harvey, Louisiana, but we sometimes operate in other geographical areas.

Company Description: Stewart Construction, LLC provides a wide variety of industrial and marine construction services, including the fabrication, assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of docks, wharfs, pilings, dolphins, fender systems, coffer dams, intake and outtake systems, ship and barge material handling systems, and other, similar systems and structures, as well as demolition and removal services. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform, manage, and supervise various kinds of concrete work, including pre-cast; poured-in-place; elevated; drilling and coring; form; tensilform; anchor bolt; and over-the-water. 
  • Perform, manage, and supervise exposy and grout work, civil dirt work, anchor bolting systems work, and surveying work. 
  • Lay out patterns, forms, or foundations according to plans.
  • Break or cut materials to required size.
  • Align structures, using levels and plumbs.
  • Operate heavy equipment. 
  • Conduct land surveys to establish boundaries and measurements.
  • Collaborating with engineers to gather and interpret data. 
  • Use specialized equipment like GPS and total stations to measure angles, distances, and elevations.
  • Supervise and coordinate daily operations of the concrete crew, ensuring work is completed on time and to project specifications.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications for accurate concrete placement and installation.
  • Manage the setup of forms, shoring, and reinforcement as per engineering plans.
  • Oversee mixing, pouring, finishing, and curing of concrete, ensuring high-quality results.
  • Assign tasks, train crew members, and monitor performance to maintain productivity and skill development.
  • Inspect completed concrete work for defects and provide instructions for corrections when necessary.
  • Estimate materials, order supplies, and manage inventory efficiently to minimize waste.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other trades to solve on-site issues promptly.
  • Maintain records of labor hours, materials usage, equipment maintenance, and project progress reports.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical or operational problems that arise during concrete operations.
  • Mix mortar or grout and spread it onto a slab or foundation as needed.
  • Clean excess mortar with trowels and other hand tools as needed. 
  • Clean and polish surfaces with hand tools or power tools as needed. 
  • Fill expansion joints with caulking materials as needed. 

Minium Qualifications: 

  • 18+ years of age.
  • TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
  • Ability to enroll in the DISA program.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Ability to travel to remote worksites on a regular and ongoing basis.
  • Must pass a drug-screen.
  • Must pass a background investigation.
  • Must pass a fit-for-duty examination.
  • Proven experience as a supervisor in concrete construction. 
  • Strong understanding of concrete properties, construction techniques, and finishing methods.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and construction plans accurately.
  • Proficiency in operating concrete-specific equipment, tools and, and machinery.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with concrete construction.
  • 2+ years of experience as a supervisor of a construction or similar crew. 
  • 2+ years of experience working on or by the water (preferably the lower Mississippi River).
  • 2+years of experience with a variety of concrete projects, including marine and industrial projects.
