Position Summary:

As a State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) working in the Memory Enhancement Unit, your role is vital in providing hands-on care and support to residents with cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia. You will work closely with the nursing team to ensure the well-being, comfort, and dignity of residents while promoting a safe, engaging, home-like environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Personal Care:
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility.
  • Provide support and encouragement to residents to maintain independence whenever possible.
  1. Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Observe and report any changes in residents' physical or mental condition to the nursing staff.
  • Document care activities, observations, and vital signs accurately in residents' records.
  1. Safety and Assistance:
  • Implement safety measures to prevent falls and injuries, particularly addressing the unique challenges presented by individuals with memory impairments.
  • Assist with behaviors and respond appropriately to redirection needs.
  1. Engagement and Activities:
  • Participate in and support recreational and therapeutic activities designed for residents in the Memory Enhancement Unit.
  • Encourage social interaction and engagement to enhance the overall quality of life for residents.
  1. Collaboration:
  • Work collaboratively with licensed nursing staff, activities coordinators, and other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic and resident-centered care.
  1. Comfort Care:
  • Provide comfort care measures, such as positioning, turning, and assisting with pain management, as directed by the nursing team.
  1. Family Communication:
  • Communicate effectively with residents' families, providing updates on their loved ones' well-being and collaborating on care plans.
  1. Crisis Intervention:
  • Respond calmly and effectively to challenging behaviors or crises, following established protocols for de-escalation.

Qualifications:

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification in accordance with state regulations.
  • Previous experience in a memory care or geriatric setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of dementia and the challenges associated with memory care.
  • Possess specialized dementia training or willingness to complete within 90 days of hire.
  • Compassionate and patient-focused with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Physical ability to assist with lifting and transferring residents.
