Job Summary: 

The Staff Development Coordinator (SDC) is responsible for bringing employees opportunities for continuing education. The staff development coordinator is responsible for creating and enacting training programs for employees that align with Masonic Homes goals. Additionally, the SDC will find creative and interesting techniques to teach the information, helping workers to gain a solid understanding of the material. 

The SDC adapts their teaching strategy according to the audience, knowing the best ways to reach specific groups of people. As the subject-matter expert, the SDC knows the material being taught intimately, allowing effective responds to employee questions. 

The staff development coordinator may also be required to conduct new hire training. He develops and teaches a program to introduce new workers to the company’s policies and procedures and helps them get acquainted with the organization. 

A staff development coordinator must have solid leadership skills with a strong ability to convey information in an effective manner. It’s essential that the SDC have a solid understanding of the company’s needs, enabling the coordinator to choose relevant and effective training programs. He must be an excellent communicator, with the ability to easily learn new skills and teach them to others. 

Common Responsibilities: 

  • Facilitates and coordinates all ongoing education and in-service programs in accordance with State and Federal requirements. 


  • Assists with orientation of all new employees to facility policies and procedures. 


  • Assures adequate orientation and continuing education of nurses and caregivers as directed by the Director of Nursing. 


  • Develops, coordinates, teaches, facilitates, and assures attendance as appropriate at all mandatory in-services. 


  • Assists in the planning and implementation of all ongoing education and in-servicing programs. 


  • Assures necessary documentation of programs is appropriate, complete and filed. 


  • Maintains employee education training and health files. 


  • Performs competency checks for nursing assistants. 


  • Schedules and coordinates nursing assistant testing within the timeframe required. 


  • Performs other duties as requested by the Director of Nursing. 

Requirements 

Ideal Experiences Include: 

  • Registered Nurse with current, active license in Kentucky 

  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience in a health care setting 

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a long-term care/short term rehab setting 

  • Prior Staff Development experience a plus 

  • Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance 

  • Understanding of computer technology 

  • Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long term care and short-term rehabilitation
