 About the Role

 Georgia Association of REALTORS® (GAR) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Legal Affairs Specialist to join our dynamic team. This position is an in-office, full-time, exempt position.

 Reports to: Legal Affairs Manager

 Schedule: Monday through Friday. Occasional travel on weekends for Meetings and Conferences.

 Position Description:

The Legal Affairs Specialist is responsible for providing administrative and legal support to the Legal Affairs Team. The Legal Affairs Specialist will work with the Legal Affairs Manager and Legal Affairs Officer to further the goals and strategic initiatives of GAR.

Serves as the Staff Liaison to the following:

·         Forms Committee (co-liaison with Legal Affairs Specialist)

·         Legal Action Committee (co-liaison with Legal Affairs Specialist)

 Duties and Responsibilities:            

  • Becomes Professional Standards Administrator certified
  • Acts as board counsel on all Professional Standards Hearings and mediations
  • Assists Professional Standards Specialist with drafting Professional Standards Hearing Decisions and Mediation Agreements
  • Monitors, sorts and organizes Helpline related questions including sending reminders as needed
  • Creates and maintains an updated library of Legal Helpline Questions and Answers
  • Monitors and returns phone calls for Legal Affairs Team
  • Responds to phones call and emails as it relates to forms access and purchases for members, licensees and real estate schools/instructors
  • Drafts cease and desist letters when there is unauthorized use of the Georgia REALTORS® Forms
  • Works with Legal Affairs Manager to prepare the GAR Forms Package for release
  • Creates and maintains a comprehensive GAR Forms SOP
  • Assists in the preparation for and attends (as needed): (1) GAR Inaugural & Legislative Conference, (2) GAR Annual Conference & Expo, (3) GAR Leadership Summit, and (4) GAR Brokers Summit
  • Attends national meetings as needed and directed including but not limited 1) NAR Legislative Meeting; 2) NAR Annual Meeting; and 3) NAR Legal Summit
  • Responsible for Committee agendas and minutes for the Committees that you serve as staff liaison or co-staff liaison.
  • Assists Legal Affairs Manager with their committee agendas and minutes as requested
  • Works with appropriate committees and staff to identify content, material, and potential speakers for forums and/or classes at GAR Inaugural Conference, GAR Annual Conference & Expo and GAR Broker Summit
  • Provides information in response to questions/concerns from members and the public regarding Georgia REALTOR® proprietary forms purchase and authorized use
  • Conducts legal research and drafts memos for the Legal Affairs Team and CEO as requested
  • Other duties as directed by the Legal Affairs Manager, Legal Affairs Officer and CEO

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will bring:

         ·         Non-profit experience (a plus)

         ·         Legal experience required

         ·         Attention to detail (required)

         ·         Task oriented

         ·         Must be an effective verbal and written communicator with the ability to work independently within very specific timeframes

         ·         Familiarity with contract law

         ·         Proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft Suite of products 

Education:                     

JD Required

Compensation: Commensurate with experience
