Food Service Manager
St. James Parish Government is hiring a Food Service Manager for the Department of Human Services.
JOB FUNCTION: This position entails responsibility for the independent performance of duties which require the exercise of judgment in making decisions in accordance with policies and practices of the department, and the laws or regulations controlling its operations. Individual must perform a variety of tasks ensuring food quality and safety as well as mentor kitchen staff for the Nutritional Program. This position is classified as non-essential during declared emergencies and natural disasters and non-exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Oversee all kitchen operations, ensuring smooth workflow and timely food preparation
• Maintain high standard of food quality, safety, and hygiene
• Supervise and mentor kitchen staff, providing training and guidance
• Manage kitchen inventory and cost control of kitchen supplies
• Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations set by the Governor’s Office of Elderly Affairs (GOEA) nutritional guidelines. Follow the policies and procedures of the GOEA’s Nutritional Manual to provide high quality, nutritional meals
• Order food and kitchen supplies
• Work with Nutrition Consultant on daily meal proportioning and menu planning and development
• Attend staff meetings, training, and conferences as required.
• Perform special and related duties or assignments as requested.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must have above average computer skills. Must be able to read menus and measurements. Must be able to create and develop meals and perform routine tasks in the kitchen.
EDUCATION and-or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university and/or certification in food services. Strong leadership and communication skills.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to work effectively under pressure and maintain a positive attitude.
