Qualifications:
● Hold a Massachusetts Special Education License: Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities PreK-8
● Master’s degree with an emphasis in Special Education or Literacy Instruction
● Experience with the use of specialized teaching techniques used with special education students with language based learning needs and dyslexia
● Knowledge of significant theories, practices, and programs for developing reading skills and reading comprehension.
● Ability to design or modify curriculum, instructional materials, and classroom environments for students with disabilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Certification in Orton Gillingham preferred
● SEI Endorsement
Reports To: Building Principal
Position: Full-time
Work Year: A school year position (184 school-year days) and occasional evenings and weekends for parent/guardian engagement and/or student and agency events. This position will require additional training days during the summer and school-year.

Salary/Benefits:
● Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with South Shore Stars’ Board approved compensation plan and commensurate with experience and certifications.
● Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by South Shore Stars
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel. Metrics modeled on Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Educator Rubrics will be used.
Performance Responsibilities:
● Provide colleagues with evidence-based tools for instruction.
● Orton Gillingham instructional programming
● Participate in planning with the Principal, and/or the classroom teachers to design appropriate academic supports to meet student needs.
● Assist in administering appropriate benchmark screening, progress monitoring and assessment of students.
● Meet with Principal and classroom teachers to share observations of student performance and progress.
● Maintain a database for tracking and assessing interventions and student progress.
● Attend grade level and staff data meetings to analyze student data and progress.
● Provide direct services within the classroom and/or small group settings.
● Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum and instructional effectiveness for all students.
● Participate in professional growth opportunities
● Meet weekly during common planning time to map out lessons and strategies.
● Consistently champion and model practices that are culturally and linguistically affirming for peers and teachers and students.
● Actively participate in and support the work of the Leadership Team to continually develop and implement the instructional vision, measure progress toward school goals, as well as develop and deploy school-wide systems and structures to support student learning.
● Model and reinforce the consistent implementation of the instructional vision through best practices, including co-teaching, peer observation, task analysis, and co-facilitation of professional learning.
● Responsible for the daily educational programs for children as prescribed in the Individual Educational Plan (IEP).
● Be responsible for the diagnostic/prescriptive programming for students with social/emotional learning needs.
● Work with itinerant staff, other special needs personnel, general education teachers, and administrators in developing viable programs for special education students.
● Work as part of the school-based evaluation Team to assess students with suspected areas of disability.
● Work in concert with TEAM members to develop and write an IEP.
● Work with building staff to integrate students into general education classrooms and programs.
● Complete daily/weekly/monthly data sheets, evaluation reports, progress reports, IEPs, assessments, and other data required by local, state and federal mandates.
● Continue to grow in the position through attendance at meetings, conferences, seminars, through readings in professional literature, and through enrollment in college or university courses.
● Such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Principal and/or their designee, and CEO.
Essential Functions of the Job:
● Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school personnel, students, and families.
● Communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form.
● Maintain student confidentiality at work and beyond work hours at all times
● Certification in Orton Gillingham preferred

● Ability to utilize computers and other administrative technologies appropriate to the position.
● Ability to lift to 40 pounds, ascend and descend multiple flights of stairs
