Position Summary

            Performs cardiovascular and other ultrasound examinations of patients in accordance with industry standards; perform routine and non-routine tasks necessary to keep the clinical office running smoothly.

 

Job Responsibilities

·         Ensure the examination order is complete, contains relevant clinical information and verifies that any required pre-authorization is obtained

·         Competently and efficiently performs ultrasound examination per protocol and in accordance with written physician order.

·         Use proper patient positioning and ergonomically correct scanning techniques to ensure patient comfort and safety, prevent compromised data acquisition and prevent musculoskeletal injury to the sonographer

·         Communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient’s ability to understand

·         Abides by patient privacy and confidentiality laws and policies

·         Accurately documents patient’s chart, database records and logs

·         Apply independent, professional and ethical judgment to ensure that the appropriate anatomical, pathological and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images

·         Accommodates additional unscheduled studies when possible

·         Maintains sanitary and professional environment

·         Ensures examination images are available to the physician in the PACS system upon completion

·         Ensures that physician is notified of all pertinent test results.

·         Adheres to universal blood and body fluid precautions & safety guidelines

·         Maintains and re-stocks clinical supplies; notifies appropriate personnel of inventory for purchasing for Venous and ULS departments.

·         Perform any other services deemed reasonable by physician or supervisor.

 

 

Qualifications

            Education and Experience:   A two-year allied health degree and successful completion of an approved one-year program in ultrasound technology.  Applicants must be eligible for registry by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or have certification in RMDS, RVS, RVT or RCS. One-year experience as a cardiovascular sonographer or ultrasound technologist or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

            Knowledge:  Proficiency with ultrasonography equipment and software; computer skills; medical terminology with concentration in cardiology

 

            Abilities:  Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff members; create a responsive, caring environment for patients; respond promptly to physicians’ directions; maintain medical records in a concise and accurate manner; react quickly in emergency situations; recognize and prevent possible safety hazards; ensure proper maintenance of equipment; communicate clearly and facilitate patient education when warranted; act as advocate and assist physician in meeting the well-being needs of the cardiology patient; exercise independent judgment; perform functions that consistently fall within the legal boundaries of profession.
